The accommodation (Gite Pomerol) was very good, with plenty of outside space and good facilities inside. The surrounding area has plenty of interest, but as you might expect for a wine growing area it rains a lot. We went in mid June and it was pretty chilly at times and rained every day at one time or another. We had one go in the pool which was nice until it rained again. I should point out that I have looked at the weather before and since and we were evidently pretty unlucky. By the way, I would suggest not eating at the local restaurant the 3 Pommes as I got food poisoning there (on the last night) which made me very ill for a week; I would not recommend this as a way of losing half a stone. Having said all that the accommodation itself is great, Bordeaux is well worth seeing (take the tram park and ride) and the beaches an hour's easy drive away are excellent. The local bakery shop is brilliant, (I recommend the strawberry tarts) and unsurprisingly even the supermarket wine is really nice.
If you want a relaxing time away, feeling like you are in the middle of nowhere but in fact, only 10 minutes from Bordeaux, then this is the place for you. We spent a week in this lovely cottage in the fabulous grounds of the Chateau. Margaret and Ronald were on hand with useful information if required but otherwise kept away. The cottage was well appointed and "Margaux" had a lovely outside space directly in front of it. The pool area was also well kept and provided a nice place to sit and relax. The cottage is well placed for exploring the wine region and beyond but a car is essential.
We would not hesitate to stay here again.
Lovely self catering cottage on the grounds of a family owned Chateau. Could do with some more pics of the exterior of the cottages as I thought we were staying in the chateau at one point ;-)
Our cottage was spotless and had everything we needed, with washing facilities cleverly concealed in an adjacent external room.
Arrived at the property to drop bags and the owner graciously dropped us back into Bordeaux as we were en route to a Euro game.
I've no hesitation in recommending this to any traveller who is looking for a serene & restful location.
I used do a jogging loop on the area around the Chateau, and the road outside had a cycling lane which ran into the city. Found a wonderful Michelin restaurant in a nearby village thanks to the reference folder in the cottage.
The stayed in both Pomerol and Sauterne, 4 adults and 2 children and we had an absolutely amazing time. The description of the property is very accurate and the property looks even better than in the pictures.
It was very clean and in a good state and the location is perfect.
The surroundings are very tranquil yet just a few minutes drive into the city and big supermarkets, bakeries etc close by. There are lots of attractions in the area, both for children and adults. In the gites you will find a folder containing lots of good information regarding property and things to do and see in the vicinity. Both Margaret and Ronald were very welcoming, helpful and willing to assist with any other information or suggestions that was needed.
I can honestly give them my very best recommendation and we will be coming back.
We had a wonderful time staying on this property in July. The grounds of the Chateau are very large. The unit itself looks exactly like the pictures. The bedrooms are upstairs and the integrated sitting area, dining area and kitchen are all one room downstairs. The owners keep a book in English of different recommendations for activities and restaurants. All the recommendations were superb.
It is a nice quiet, country setting, but just a few minutes to get into downtown Bordeaux. Very centrally located and convenient without staying directly in town.
We would come back and stay and this place for sure. We loved it!
