We stayed in bay View and then moved to Artists Cottage on the same property. The apartment is wonderfully spacious with high ceilings and lots of attention to detail in the decor and styling. The veranda was facing the sea and funchal harbour which is where we spent most of our time and also having a pool was such a plus with the warm weather. Located a short walk up the hill (steepish but fine) from the old town, in a pretty traditional street with great sea views. Enjoyed walking to the excellent restaurants down the road, our favourite was Tasco and swimming in town was also a great surprise. Will certainly return, maybe this winter already. Thanks to all the team for making our holiday so easy and enjoyable.
First of all the booking was extremely easy and fast (Christina answered emails at night and weekends so this allowed us to book flights quickly and made communication easy). We then had help from them with our airport transfers and car rental which we had for 2 days to see the rest of the island (no need if its just for Funchal as we walked everywhere). Really pleased that Bay View was even nicer then the photos show, its a beautiful house that has been decorated in tropical chic kind of way. Loved the lazy evening on the veranda and it was warm enough to swim in the pool, we even had a friendly lizard that would say hello at cocktail time. So happy we chose this part of Funchal as its not developed with large hotels but quaint and full of locals with theirs dogs and small cafés and shops. Will be back for sure and highly recommend it.
It's absolutely magic place. Wonderfull view, house is located in very calm part of the town. I was here three times and of course I will be here next year :-)
Very happy to have chosen Villa Juvenal and Funchal Cottages (we rented both apartments for a wedding anniversary). bay View is a very handsome apartment, high ceilings with spacious rooms, and a colonial charm which is reflected in the decoration and architecture of the house. Property was well maintained and actually is even better than the photos show which was a nice surprise. Really enjoyed the terraces facing the sea, and it was just the kind of pretty view of Funchal harbour that we wanted. The service was professsional and friendly -we were greeted at the airport and they showed us how everything worked, as our flight was a bit late on the last day Alan kept our bags and then picked us up in town which was really appreciated. Really happy with our choice, it made our special holiday even more special.
We booked this jewel of an apartment and had an enchanting stay. Its a part of Funchal full of charm, lots of gardens, old houses crumbling to bits a bit like a refined and very clean Cuba without the danger or poverty. Apartment has a lot of space (we though the staircase was shared but then realised the entire place was just for the two of us - the bedroom is massive it has 3 different windows and three doors, so that gives an idea of how big it is). We used the swimming pool and spent a lot of time on the terrace which has great views of Funchal port. There are some teeny restaurants within walking distance which we found very good quality/price (tapassol, Jango and Sabor a Fado) and the barreirinha bar was great to sip a drink before heading back home (one night it had some good jazz). The climate was so warm we could not beleive it as it was snowing back home, we got 21 degrees one day. Its a very nice island and I think we chose the best place to stay.
We stayed first in the Bay View and then the Pool Cottage (both owned by the same people) and found the combination superb. A private transfer took us in about 10min from the airport to the Bay View, arriving early at the house everything was ready for us at 10am which was very appreciated. The apartment was enormous and very handsome with tall ceilings and lots of windows with great sea views. We enjoyed the sunny terrace and also the sunbathing area around the pool which is shaded by banana trees (we ate some delicious). Location was brilliant in the center but without the bustle, we had dinner out every night in the old town which has plenty of choice, it also has typical poncha bars and a bakery which seems to be open all the time. When we went to the next apartment the owner picked us up and took us to the Pool Cottage (with all our breakfast stuff in a trolley) service was above and beyond what we expected and so was the Bay View which we would certainly recommend.
