Our accommodation was called Alba, which is a fully furnished flat, for a week, during the first week of October 2016. Fully heated with Air Conditioning (if required). Starting in the bedroom-at the back/side of the flat. . There was a large wardrobe, with lots of hanging space, double bed, and radiators, and additional bedding/pillows if required. The window at the end of the bed overlooked the vineyard, but the view was hampered by the bricks... not a problem. Fully fitted bathroom, with bath, shower, sink and toilet. Then up a step into the lounge/kitchen, which
has been furnished with TV, Settee, Bookcase, Fridge/freezer, Sink, Oven and Wi-fi. There is a patio outside, with a table and chairs and parasol is available. There are fresh herbs in the garden, with olive trees. A washing machine is available, along with an iron and ironing board.
We could not have asked for better hosts - Jane & Giampero know the area . There is a booklet/guide to the accommodation which also recommends various restaurants....for whatever type of food you fancy.
We walked round Pontassieve / Pelago which was most enjoyable.
As we were on a driving holiday we had a couple of days when we went to Pisa and Florence by train.
We drove to the station parked the car and then caught the train. It was fairly easy and cheap to buy tickets.
(The one drawback, is that the flat is quite a way out of town, so we could not walk into town have a meal and then walk back.)
The Alba was very clean and well maintained. Yes, I would go back and would gladly recommend it to a friend.
We were late arriving so Jane emailed us a shopping list, which we sent back with our requirements. Our shopping was waiting for us when we arrived.
My husband and I have just returned from a weeks stay at Borgo di Sopra and would recommend this property to anyone.
The 16th century barn conversion has been completed by Jane & her husband Giampiero to a very high standard and the apartment has all mod cons whilst retaining it's Tuscan character & charm.
The apartments are ideally placed if you want to explore Tuscany we visited Florence, Lucca, Sienna, San Gimignano during our stay and enjoyed returning each evening to the to Borgo di Sopra to enjoy the stunning views across the hillside and the tranquility of the surroundings. The only noise that will awaken you in the morning is that of birdsong or the red squirrels harvesting walnuts from the surrounding trees.
If you want a taste of Tuscany you will not find a more beautiful or comfortable place to do so. Jane & Giampiero are very welcoming and thoughtful hosts without being at all intrusive.
We were both very sad to depart and hope to return one day !
Jane, the owner, was extremely helpful in planning our stay the weeks before our holiday, even down to precise instructions on how to manage an Italian supermarket! Her details to get to the property were excellent and her welcome on arrival was great after many hours of travelling.
The property is in a stunning location and is equipped to a high standard with quality furnishings and fittings. There is air conditioning, wi fi, TV..... all the modern day essentials. The property is private - one of 4 - and yet there is no need to socialise unless you wish to.
Florence is 30 minutes away by train and very easy to access. Jane leaves a book of suggested places to visit and to eat. She booked a great restaurant for us on the top of a high hill - great!
We would recommend a stay here without any reservation.
There's always that slight "sight unseen" trepidation when renting a place you've seen only in pictures -- even if the pictures make it look really good. The payoff at Borgo is that everything about it so surpassed our imagination. The drive up and down a road that winds around a noble hillside vineyard is breathtaking. Then you arrive to find an oasis of comfort and mix of old and new world charm. Jane and GIampiero are not only gracious, welcoming and eager to please -- they're incredibly friendly and interesting people to get to know.We started out in the smaller Cipresso apartment, which was nice enough. But we quickly decided we wanted more privacy and view. Jane kindly accommodated our request, and we were beyond delighted with Alba, which offered spectacular views and a private deck. Grounds are beautiful; the apartment was spotlessly clean with Italian tile floors white walls and high, exposed wood beam ceilings. Nice furnishings -- appropriately country -- a comfortable bed w/ nice linens, quality fixtures in a spacious bathroom and high-end appliances in the kitchen. It was a place not only to come home to -- but to feel at home in. If you go in September, know that you'll become addicted to the fresh figs you can pick off a tree that spreads its branches, heavv with ripe fruit, over the yard about twenty steps away. Jane and Giampiero heartily encouraged us to enjoy the figs to our heart's content and we did -- with bread and cheese for breakfast, with prosciutto and wine for a light early evening snack. Grounds are also planted with rosemary and sage bushes. Lovely. Florence is a short and easy drive -- but an even easier train ride (recommended) from Pontassieve. There are, of course, many other areas of interest within driving distance. We so enjoyed our stay here and getting to know la famiglia. For these reasons and more, we give Borgo our highest recommendation!
I live in Hawaii so it takes a lot to impress me. And Borgo di Sopra does just that in every way. This is my second stay in 3 years and I will be back again. This trip I brought 7 smart, professional women with discriminating tastes and I was not sure how they would like the rural setting. Every one of us had a wonderful time and are already scheming how to get back to this wonderful place again.
The setting is beautiful. My friend opened the window in her bedroom overlooking the vineyards and hills and after 6 day traveling in other parts of Italy she said, "This is what Italy is supposed to look like!"
The units are all well maintained with historic touches and modern comforts. The beds are all very comfortable. The grounds are serene and inviting for hiking. And the family who lives on site is most accommodating. They will leave you your privacy if you want it. We wanted to get to know them better so we did socialize some. You could not ask for better hosts. They gave many good suggestions, help me in town when we got a flat tire and saved me with a small medical problem. If you like good Chianti have Jane arrange a tour of Frescobaldi winery up the hill. If you like white, try the delicious Pomino wine they offer. And if you are really lucky like we were, you might have a chance to arrange a cooking class and dinner with Antonella. So much fun and So delicious.
In 20 minute you can be in the center of Florence with all it has to offer. Or base yourself here for may day trips in the area. My only regret, is if the word gets out, Borgo will be too booked to stay again. Jane and Gianpiero are very special hosts.
We are from the UK (near Bristol) and stayed at this delightful property in September 2012. September is a wonderful time to visit. Many thanks to Giampiero & Jane for a fantastic week which we thoroughly enjoyed and had a great time seeing lots of lovely places and scenery. The owner's friendly and invaluable help with guides and tips helped us make the most of our stay and they really did go the extra mile to provide excellent customer service
This property is situated in the Alpine district of East (North East) Tuscany, a few miles east of Florence. We rented the 'Villa' which was very well equipped with everything you could possibly need including Sky TV if you still require the re-assurance of keeping up with news / TV from the UK. This is a 1 bedroom rental suitable for a couple only and was very clean, well equipped with a good bathroom including a great shower.
Although the primary tourist destinations of Florence, Siena, San Gimignano, Lucca, Arezzo & Volterra were in easy reach we took advantage of Giampiero & Jane’s local recommendations to visit some other wonderful places. The town of Pontassieve is close by and has a large CoOp and railway station meaning Florence is some 20 minute train ride away (longer if you get a slower train). Tickets are cheap, 6 Euros for a day return and full details of train times, parking and purchase details were made available in the property.
There are a number of recommendations for local restaurants and on recommendation we did have a nice lunch at a hilltop country restaurant North of San Francesco at Localita Colognade although as we tended to cook in the property we didn’t take full advantage of the excellent range of culinary recommendations supplied in the ‘bible’ which may be a good reason to return at a later date?
The property is on the edge of vineyards and the “Castello di Nipozzano” is a 10 / 15 minute walk up the hill above the property. They have a produce shop and have a range of wine tasting options available. Due to time constraints our visits were limited to buying local honey, olive oil and some fine red wines. In summary we would highly recommend this property and the excellent owners Giampiero & Jane and can’t imagine anyone would be anything but delighted with a stay at this wonderful property
