The house was as pictured and had everything we needed. It was pleasant to have the short walk to town daily and to return to the quiet of the house and the neighbourhood. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here and would recommend it to others.
Great spot close to the village.
We really enjoyed our stay. The townhouse was perfect. Close to town, parking, and a great patio on the river to decompress, after a long day of touring.
The owner Jack was a real gentleman and welcomed us in like old friends.
We will be back!
I appreciate this review very much, and they seem like old friends to me!
An elegant tranquil week in the heart of the Luberon
Such a lovely stay in River House, wish we had had friends to share it. 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms - perfect for 4. The deck is amazing, great to sunbathe on during the day, for BBQing at night (thank goodness not a charcoal one!), and to watch the ducks in the evening with their heads down, tails up, having their evening meal. Only 10 minutes to walk into the heart of the town - no parking problems on Market Sunday!
We reserved at 2 restaurants on the riverside, Le Nego and Carre Rond, both excellent. Also lunched at L'Ecaillerie, great for fish. Even found a very good hairdresser right in the Pieton Zone - a true master and half the price of others in town.
Jack was so easy to deal with, we enjoyed meeting him very much, and hope to stay there again.
This couple was a pleasure to have in the property--they seemed to enjoy everything local, and I enjoyed having them.
Charming cottage in a great location, loved spending time
on the river with the laughing ducks, cold clear water to
dangle feet. Cottage had everything we needed,a radio
would have been nice perhaps lacking a feminine touch!
But Jack was brilliant very helpful interesting guy. Lovely stay
lots of happy memories, Robert Timmy and Jacob.
A Delightful Week in L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue
We very much enjoyed our stay at River House. The description of the house was quite accurate, and it was a comfortable place to stay. We particularly enjoyed the wonderful terrace in the back of the house on a branch of the Sorgue. It was always a bit cooler there and just generally relaxing. We happily ate all our “at home” meals there.
Jack was an excellent host. He showed us around the house upon our arrival, made helpful suggestions, and we had an opportunity to chat later in the week when he briefly stopped by to water roses in the garden since L’Isle was going through a very hot spell.
By judicious closing of outside wooden shutters and inside windows, however, we were able to keep the house comfortable during the day and cool during the evening. We never even felt a need to use the fans.
L’Isle-sur-la-Sorgue is a lovely, unusual town, surrounded by water at every turn. From the house it’s an easy walk into town to pick up some pastries for breakfast. We were happy with everything that came from the boulangerie/patisserie next to Café de France. And in the evening it was pleasant to stroll along the water surrounding the town to decide where to have dinner. (Hint: Once we spotted a good place we often asked in person for a table about an hour later—8 PM seemed to be the magic time—and then filled the time with more strolling or stopping for an apéritif somewhere. Or call ahead, particularly near the weekend.)
There are a number of nice restaurants to choose from. We discovered La Balade des Senteurs along Quai J. Jaurès early in the week, which was good because we decided we wanted to go back! La Prévôté was a little hard to find at first but definitely worth the search. A delightful meal and ambiance.
For tasty local specialties to purchase and bring back home, Sous un Olivier on rue Ledru Rollin has quite a variety of items.
Some excursions we enjoyed (places less on the beaten track as we’ve visited this area of Provence before): a visit to the Château de Saumane and a hike up the trail nearby, a drive through Les Dentelles de Montmirail from Malaucène to Suzette, the charming little town of Les Barroux and its castle, the Roman theatre and arch in Orange.
All in all, a very enjoyable week!
*Just one suggestion for Jack: the terrace could use a full-size umbrella. The half-size umbrella was OK but required some moving around of chairs and table. Otherwise, what a pleasant place to relax outside! Thank you!
Many thanks for the revue from these charming people. And I agree that we need a bigger parasol, considering the provencal sun!
Loved it !
The house is a 5 minute walk from town. Easy to get to the baker at 6:30am to get fresh croissants ! The house is much bigger than we thought and the terrace is fantastic.Loved to sit and watch the ducks. We cooked in a few nights and the kitchen was well enough supplied to make a full meal. Showers were very good - lots of pressure and loved the separate toilet rooms. We were very happy with this house.
Let me also note Jack was just great. He met us at the house, showed us around and gave us good tips for touring and restaurants. One recommendation was Prevote and it was the best meal ever. Pricey but worth every cent.
What more can I say but book this property.. You won't regret it !
Many thanks for this review, and it was a real pleasure having you there, with your enthusiasm and friendliness. Hope to see you again!
