Half-pint cottage, Selsley, Stroud, Glos
The property was advertised as being 2 bedrooms - this was not the case, there was a chair-bed in the sitting room, the owner, after I had paid the deposit (non-refundable without insurance) informed me by email, after I questioned this, that it was not really suitable as a bedroom, only for an occasional guest night ! There were no proper written instructions for using the heating, washing machine, just guesswork for dishwasher, oven & microwave. The toilet flush was not functioning properly & the refuse/rubbish collection point not too clear, the charming neighbours did not know either as to where or how to put rubbish collection out. Parking was findable, but unloading/loading quite tricky being in a a very narrow uphill road. The hot water was very good though ! & the bed comfortable. Rather difficult to use the toilet in the night due to 3 flights of stairs to the bathroom ! to navigate. Overall, a very compact cottage, but not too suitable for elderly people.
I am totally bemused by the reaction of this guest. Our cottage is very clearly advertised as a "One bedroomed, romantic village property with garden. "We also advise that the (only two) flights of stairs are "unsuitable for guests with mobility problems. "
Unfortunately our guest did not ask any questions before booking. An extra sofa bed was offered, although we do not encourage the use of this normally. What's more two sets of copious cottage guidelines( the first one seeming to have been mislaid)were sent to the guest, but sadly these did not seem to have been consulted. These contain detailed information on all appliances, the heating system, arrangements for the PRIVATE waste collection, places of interest etc. etc. Extra instructions were also available in the cottage. We are disappointed in this irrational and unfair review. As septegenarians ourselves, we find staying in this cottage delightful.
Cute and comfortable cottage
We spent a long weekend at the 'half pint' cottage and absolutely loved it. The cottage is small but plenty for a couple.
It is a really great spot for exploring the Cotswolds. We were particularly fond of the walk from Selsley Common to Coaley Peak (superb view point) and onwards to Woodchester Park.
Selsley (just outside Stroud) is a small village with nice views across valleys on both sides. There is a really nice and friendly local pub (The Bell) with some of the best pub food we've had.
We hope to return soon.
I'm so glad you liked our little cottage, and had an enjoyable weekend.I'd love to welcome you back some time.
We had a great time at the Half Pint cottage. It was well placed for exploring the Cotswolds, well equipped, clean and tidy. The only downsides are the lack of parking and although warned re the stairs they are very steep so not suitable for elderly or impaired. All in all we had a really good stay and would recommend to anyone
