Artistic Rustic Romance
Both houses exceeded our expectations . Laurence & her family were so welcoming and helpful in acquainting us with the area and other islands as well. We loved the little "veni", birds that arrived throughout the day to feed and Salsa, Churro, & Papi (the dogs) were fun and well behaved. We felt like we were able to experience an authentic Tahitian neighborhood while having our own privacy. The French Market had everything that we needed with warm, friendly people, the roulettes were great and we especially enjoyed Lani's BBQ & the next door restaurant, "Moon Rays". Delicious food, affordable, and great local hospitality . The Hut was amazing! It is beautifully crafted and very romantic .My sister and her husband stayed at the Gecko House , we all loved being close having our own privacy but being together when we wanted. Laurence brought us fresh fruit several times and we even got to attend a cultural pageant at the Marue sacred site up the road. Be sure and rent her car with the house as in doing so we were able to drive around Tahiti iti and see the surfers and waterfalls ,grotto, and communities at our own pace. It is much cheaper to rent from her. The Gecko house is a friendly little house that the pictures don't do justice and we loved watching the reef sharks and the little fish out front of both houses. My sister and her husband stayed at an overwater bungalow on Bora Bora, and also a upscale home on Moorea, and said that the Gecko house was their favorite of the three. It is very relaxing . We highly recommend both houses and our hosts were terrific. Pa'ea was exactly the right location for us, rural but with conveinaces. Maruruu!
Friendly hosts, decent accommodations
The owners are very nice and welcoming people, and the compound is secure and overlooks the beach and the lagoon beyond, with views out to Moorea. There's a mini-mart across the street with all you need for breakfast. Overall, it's a decent place to stay, if a bit shabby. Biggest issue are mosquitoes - the rental neither has window screens nor nets over the beds, nor even mounting hooks to hang nets if you travel with your own. We all got bites.
Check in can be a bit of an adventure if you drive there yourself. It's 25 minutes from the airport, and you have to look for physical markers - easy to find during the day - harder at night. Then you need to honk your horn for the owners to open the gate.
The VRBO listing is actually for 2 different rentals on the property - I thought the "artist hut" was included, but it's rented separately from the bungalow.
Beyond all that, these are very pleasant people, who are happy to receive guests, and who do what they can to make you comfortable. The property extends from the main road to the beach, enclosed on all sides, with 3 very friendly dogs roaming about keeping an eye on things - our kids had a great time playing with the dogs. And it's very quiet at night. The beach isnt particularly nice, but it provides a great view, and there are nicer beaches perhaps 1km away.
Clean and on the beach
We spent 3 nights in the gecko house. It was clean and right on the beach. We saw sea life from the deck and kitchen window. The ocean water was warm and lovely. We used the kayaks provided by Laurence and they were a lot of fun. There is an organic market right next door that was lovely. My only complaint is the neighbors. Though they were very friendly they had a fire going 24 hours a day all three days we were there. The whole area smelled like a giant bonfire/charcoal grill they entire time. I have asthma and the fires made it very uncomfortable. We also saw the neighbors washing out a giant trash can in the ocean one morning that left a lot of debris floating in the water for quite some time. It was pretty gross.
I am so sorry about what's happenned with my neighbors , I don't feel the fire smell sorry , I would speak with my neighbours for sure to be sure that we can have a solution for that , my neighbor is a fisherman and he wash offen the boxes and plates who he cut the fish and all in the lagoon to not add a very smell in the trash box , like me when I have some old bread or old food I feed the fishs in my lagoon it's a way of recycle circle I am sorry that it can disturb you but all people around the beach feed the sea life ( no plastics or bags ...) just bread meat fish cakes... tahitian people had always done that , I just expect that it was naturel food and not other trash. I am so sorry for that why did you not speak me about that before? I could gone to see my neighbors and explain the complain. SO SORRY.
very clean and great for one or two nights.
Great place but in the middle of no where! We had no intentions of cooking so we went to the one and only restaurant for lunch and it closed at 1430 so we got take out for dinner. Great place for a night or two. Also a lot of dogs barking. Not necessarily on property but on beach as well. Market looked ok
iA ORANA Casey , sorry for your troubles but we are not far from noway we have a supermarket open 5am to 7pm in front the property and a restaurant opened only at mid day and 3 food trucks by night 6pm to 1am at less than 500m from our property , you are not in town with all the advantages and conviniences but around the island living like most of tahitians and french people. Sorry for the dogs around (we controle our dogs ) living on the beach suppose dogs in the propertys for safety and protection so all around all the neighbours have dogs , it's rare that we have noisy time I am sorry that 's happened when you was here. I was travelling at this time and if I was here I could speak with my neighbors ; I am sorry that is very rare nobody never complain about that and I am surprised because we have a lot of guests that come again for 1 month or more after their first visit.Retired people love my place .
Niet ver van het Museum van Tahiti en zijn eilanden, waar hij gaat regelmatig evenementen in het jaar
