Delightful stay in a charming traditional cottage in Derbyshire
We stayed in this cottage during the Christmas week. Wirksworth is a very interesting town that has many independent shops, pubs and cafes. It is set in the hillside on the edge of the Peak District.
The cottage is a short walk from the town centre, but is in a quiet location. There are plenty of local walks from the cottage and Derbyshire delights such as Chatsworth and Matlock are a short drive away.
The cottage has a very well equipped kitchen so that it was a pleasure to cook Christmas dinner. We were able to sit 7 people down for a meal in the kitchen/dinning room. The lounge is cosy with plenty of comfortable seating and was kept warm by efficient central heating. There are 2 comfortable double bedrooms and a bathroom with a good shower and bath.
Cosy Comfort even in the bad weather!
We arrived Easter Sunday with our two grandsons; this turned out to be the only dry day of our 4 day break! Lesley & Phil were there to greet us warmly, and they explained all the bits & bobs of the cottage. Also told us of the best places to eat (& drink!). The cottage was warm & homely with comfy beds (although the futon spare was a bit on the hard side, but to be expected). Well-stocked kitchen, nice touch of some shortbread and a few essentials like milk (thank you). Also, as it was Easter, Lesley had laid on a mini egg hunt. The boys found 22 of the 25 eggs (she is very good at hiding them!). The town itself is welcoming and there are good walks (although the weather was not great with quite a bit of snow and flooding). The cottage is an excellent place to stay for exploring the Amber Valley, Matlock Bath, Heights of Abraham, Crich Tramway Museum, Lead Mining Museum, there are a couple of heritage railways nearby. All in all a great stay. We will be going back, I'm sure. The cottage is excellent for friends or family. 4 is very comfortable but 6 can be accommodated using the futon as a spare double bed. No WiFi at the cottage, but a BT Hotspot is available.
Thank you. Glad you enjoyed your stay despite the weather.
Fantastic cottage in great location
This cute cottage is located right in the centre of Wirksworth, a short walk from a great selection of pubs, shops and places to eat. The cottage is well decorated with new, comfortable beds and 2 really good sized bedrooms. There are some great walks locally and plenty of places to visit such as the tram museum and Matlock Bath. Alton towers is about a 30 minute drive. Would definitely stay again. Thanks Lesley.
Thank you, so pleased you enjoyed your stay at Saddler's Cottage
