Fijn compleet huis in een rustige buurt. Traditioneel Engels ingericht. Ik miste een koffiezetapparaat maar ja Nederlanders zoals wij drinken meer koffie dan thee.
Well located comfortable property with minor niggles
The property is located in a quiet residential area, is not overlooked, has a fair sized garden on 3 sides or the property. It has a good sized patio with garden furniture that allows outside dining, unfortunately for us, the weather prevented this.
The property itself isn’t big for a 3 bedroom bungalow but was perfectly adequate for our group, yes Second Double Bedroom is a wee bit tight to get around, but it’s only for sleeping in so fit that purpose. First minor niggle. Kitchen is galley style and is very tight for more than 2 people so we quickly worked out a routine that made it work for us ( I ended up being the washer up man), Kitchen was fairly well equipped but it could do with a refresh on cooking utensils, and some better quality equipment.
Fridge and freezer space is very good as the garage has a second fridge, washing machine and tumble dryer, very much needed during our week. The dishwasher was also a very useful feature.
Nice touch on arrival was the tea and cake especially after a long journey to get there, chocolate in bedrooms, good quality bedding all make an excellent impression.
Second minor niggle. Having read previous reviews, it’s quite clear the roof of the conservatory hasn’t been adequately repaired and, due to the incessant rain during our stay, a damp patch then leak reappeared. We notified the owner/manager by email but didn’t receive a response. This must be repaired before it becomes a major problem for them. On a cursory look, it seems the guttering is in disrepair and doesn’t cover all the area it should do.
Other than these two minor niggles and the incessant rain, we had a good holiday and would stay at Birds Nest Cottage again in the future.
This property provided the perfect accommodation for my elderly parents with limited mobility. The garden was lovely to sit in and allowed my Mum to remember her own garden which she has had to leave. We all have a fabulous time. We were able to drive to many restaurants and if it had been just my husband and I everything was walkable including the lake.
The Property is in a quiet location close to Bowness and Windermere, the bungallow is very spacious but a little tight in the double bedroom between the wall and end of bed, apart from that it is all it is said to be. We had to cut our stay short but had no trouble contacting the owner who promptly refunded our damage liability payment.
Overall nice property
Great location and a nice house and garden, lots of kitchen utensils and other little things provided and the house is clean.
Some furniture is a little dated and the 2nd double room is a little tight around sides and bottom of bed, this and the twin rooms would be better swapped around, make the middle room the twin, kitchen is also a little small but manageable.
Overall the house is a nice house and I'd be happy to stay again, great location and I'd highly recommend the Sunday roast at the local restaurant down the road "Beresford's Restaurant & Pub" on main road
Well situated for town and local fells but too many problems
Like previous visitors we were pleasantly surprised by the tea and cakes that greeted our arrival. The beds were comfortable and the narrow squeeze in the double bedroom wasn’t a problem because it was only used by a six year old. But we found the galley kitchen uncomfortably narrow for family use.
The clocks had just gone back so we had problems with the boiler’s timing, This led to a somewhat acrimonious communication with the owner who eventually overrode the timer.
On Halloween morning our granddaughter had just finished the Treasure Trail we’d set up for her when the owner arrived with a workman to discuss the leaking roof. Not wonderful timing. The next day a British Gas engineer turned up to sort out the boiler timing and decided he needed to do some serious remedial work so he returned that evening just as we’d settled our granddaughter to bed. He spent an hour dismantling the burner while we attempted to have a bit of family time. When he finished he said that he’d have to switch the boiler off because the pilot light was faulty and would leak gas. So no central heating. On our last day the electrics in the garage failed when we were halfway through a wash and the conservatory leaked during that day’s continuous rain. We’d paid top whack for a half-term week and reckoned we were due a rebate. None has been offered and we consider it a waste of time asking.
It’s worth pointing that the person named on the website as the owner appears to be the manager, according to the person answering the housekeeper’s phone, who we believe is the actual owner. All rather puzzling.
Thank you for your review. The heating is on a timer and as you quite rightly say the timing was affected when the clocks went back. The problem with the boiler occurred when the switches were tampered with and as such we had to get British Gas out to fix this problem. We had emergency call outs as the weather was extremely bad and it was unfortunate that they called a time inconvenient to you. The roof has been fully replaced, something we could not do when guests were in the property.
