We were there for two weeks and had a great time. The property is situated 6km out of Dalyan in a rural setting. We didn't hire a car but there was no problem getting into Dalyan. You can get the Dolmus from outside Ley Ley restaurant (stick your arm out to request it to stop). They arrive every 15 mins (fare 2-3 TL). For supermarket shopping get a taxi back(34 TL from Migros). The property is simply but nicely furnished. It had everything we needed. The air-con is very effective! The pool is fantastic and the house is surrounded by fruit trees (hence the name). The owner very kindly organised a taxi transfer from Dalaman airport (30 mins drive) for us on arrival. We would certainly go back.
The Lemon House is every bit as lovely as the photos and description lead you to expect. Even our earlier than anticipated arrival didn't worry Serpil who turned up with fresh bread, wine and water to greet us.
We'd spent 10 busy days with friends in Kalkan before coming here, so thoroughly enjoyed just being on our own with the pool, the 15 chickens (variously named Kiev, Marengo, Coronation, Korma and so on) and the citrus grove. We barely used the interior of the house during the day, apart from some simple food preparation in the little kitchen. How useful to have tea, coffee, milk, sugar, oil, herbs & spices on hand! Apart from 24 hours without hot water, everything worked fine, including the wi-fi which let us keep an eye on the business back home.
Fatma cooked a delicious meal for us one evening, adding tasty little extras to our choices. LeyLey was slighty disappointing on our first evening; the food was average and the place was packed as they were having a Turkish Dancing evening, complete with a svelte belly dancer gyrating with bulky white tourists. Dalyan's White Lotus was pleasant as was the small Crab & Fish Restaurant in one of the back streets, and The Hidden Garden for our last lunch was excellent.
We walked to Caunos one morning, after getting rowed across the river by a large lady whose cafe-owning sister greeted us on the other side and directed us to the now paved road to the must see site. We visited the Saturday market in what's usually Dalyan's main car park, husband Gwyn got a shave which he highly recommends, and then headed off to Itzuzu Beach. Finally we had a lovely drive round Köycegiz lake to the Sultaniye mud baths and thermal springs - wonderfully deserted as the first boats from Dalyan had yet to arrive. Köycegiz is a lovely holiday resort town for Turks at the head of the lake, very beautiful and peaceful.
The Lemon House is a great base from which to explore the area, and a charming spot to come back to at the end of a hot, dusty day. Our thanks to Alison, Serpil and Fatma for your hospitality.
We stayed at The Lemon House in May 2014 with our 3 little girls (5,3 and 1). It was perfect for us. The girls loved the clean, sparkling pool, running around (and chasing the chickens) in the orange/lemon grove surrounding the house, and having lots of lovely meals on the patio. We drove to the beach at Itzuzu which was very quiet and lovely for swimming, and also walked up to the rock tombs and Kaunos which they loved. We did take a boat trip from Dalyan to the beach on our last day and although the boat trip is pretty, I would not recommend the beach there as it is full of people, day trips etc. Overall a wonderful holiday and house which I have recommended to all my friends already.
The Lemon House is a secluded cottage situated within a beautiful orchard. At the time of our stay (early July) the fruit wasn't quite ripe enough to eat but we did manage to find sufficient lemons and limes for our gin and tonics each evening and it was fun being able to pick them fresh from the trees.
The house is small and simple but really lovely and we found it just big enough for the five of us. However, we tended to spend most of our time outside which has ample space and is so peaceful and idyllic. Surprisingly we didn't seem to be bothered by mozzies either, although we didn't take any risks and sprayed on the repellant each night.
The maid, Fatima, kept the pool clean daily and cooked us a delicious authentic Turkish meal one night - definitely recommended.
The owners were very helpful and gave us some sound advice on various aspects of our holiday to help us get the most out of it.
We went into Dalyan a few times for shopping and restaurants. This is a really friendly, buzzing town with a super atmosphere. If you don't have a car, there are plenty of taxi services or restaurant owners willing to pick you up and drop you back after your meal.
A car is definitely recommended, however, if you want to properly see this part of Turkey. We hired a car for the whole ten days and drove all over the place. We found everyone to be very friendly and helpful wherever we went and there was plenty to do and see and some truly memorable experiences to be had. Our absolute highlight was the private boat trip arranged by one of the owners, Serpil, with her friend Captain Sedat and his son. They gave us the most wonderful time and could not have been more hospitable.
We definitely plan to return to this delightful part of Turkey and to this lovely, quirky little house.
This property is exactly as it looks on the website. It is very charming indeed. The outdoor areas were particularly attractive and we spent most of our week eating outdoors, sitting around the pool, and picking oranges to make juice. It was totally idyllic. The end of the garden is quite rough - full of orange and lemon trees, and only overlooked by one house. The pool has a very efficient cleaning system - Fatma, the cleaning lady comes every day and there is a hose and pump system used , so there are never dead bugs floating around in it, which we usually find in pools. The pool isn't fenced in any way, and is quite deep, so care must be taken with children. There was always shade to be found if needed, and the views from the roof terrace were lovely.
It is our second time to Dalyan and won't be our last. We liked to be out of the resort a few km, and felt immersed in nature (cats, dogs, frogs and chickens to name a few of the regulars!) but Dalyan is a super place, especially for families with kids. There is a very friendly feel about it and such a huge choice of restaurants and shops that you can easily eat somewhere different every meal, every day (although you always find your favourites! ) It's really cheap too . The beach is stunning and the countryside is beautiful. Driving in Turkey is not for the faint hearted, and later in the year, the bugs are a nuisance, but in April we weren't bothered at all. It's an amazing place and a smashing little villa.
