Girls Snowmobile Weekend Getaway
The property looks just like the pictures, it's lovely. It was a bit tricky figuring out how to get to it via snowmobile from the trails, but that's just part of staying somewhere new! We had 8 women at the house and we stayed for 4 nights. When we arrived, it was dark, very dark and there were no outside lights on. Difficult to manage all our gear on a tiny little path that was not really shoveled recently, not the end of the world. The home was very cold when we arrived, the heat was set somewhere very low and took a while to warm up. As soon as someone flushed the upstairs toilet, there was a terrible sewer stench filling the entire upper level. Called the owner, he said probably a frozen exhaust pipe on the roof, hopefully the sun will rectify the problem, it did not. We dealt with the stink the entire weekend, it was during the near record cold snap. My only suggestion to the owners is to provide more garbage bags (we had 1). Provide direction on reclycling (we put in a separate can outside and hoped it would be recycled). Provide towels for kitchen, hand soap, hand towels for bathrooms, dishwasher soap and more than 4 rolls of toilet paper for 8 women for 4 days. Kleenex would be a bonus.
We all brought shower towels, but didn't bring any hand towels and that turned out to be an issue. I've stayed in many VRBO homes, and general rule of thumb is if you would have it in a hotel, you should have it in your home as well. These are mere suggetions, we did enjoy our stay, if we don't find one with a hot tub for next year, we will be back!!
Lisa, thank you for your review. We’re glad to hear you enjoyed this beautiful home, but we’re sorry that some aspects of your stay fell short of your expectations. In the Vacation Rental Industry, unlike at hotels, not all toiletries and supplies are provided. This homeowner does note in the pre-stay email sent to all guests 15 days prior to arrival that there are no towels at the property and guests are expected to bring their own. However, had you reached out to the homeowner and requested any items you forgot, he would have been more than happy to give you access to the extra supplies he keeps on hand for guests. Unfortunately, he never heard from you regarding this concern. We’re also sorry for the issues that occurred with the plumbing. As the homeowner explained to you at the time, an exhaust pipe froze on the roof, which caused the smell in the bathroom. This can happen in very cold conditions, and as you pointed out, the area was experiencing a record cold spell during your stay. The homeowner did give you instructions on how to easily ventilate the area in order to alleviate the smell in the bathroom for that evening, and he asked you to call him if the problem had persisted into the next day, so that he could send the property caretaker clear the roof pipe. The homeowner did not receive a second call, so he assumed the problem resolved itself, as the thin ice blockage usually melts as house heats up. This homeowner strives to provide all guests with a 5-star experience, and unfortunately, this incident was completely out of his control. We do wish that we had been given the opportunity to address and correct your concerns during your stay as opposed to this feedback being given after the fact - the owner wants each guest to be comfortable and enjoy their stay fully and would have provided a solution immediately. Thank you again for your feedback and we hope to host you again in the future. Best, the Evolve Team
Lovely log home with a beautiful view of Star Lake
Our family has spent the last 3 summers at Star Lake Retreat. We are a retired couple and bring our adult children and grandkids. This house is not on Star Lake which is great for us since we have small grandkids and since the house is pet friendly, our dogs and grandkids can play in the yard. The view from the house is amazing and we have a young artist that enjoys sitting in the living room painting pictures of the lake or sky.
Star Lake is a 5-10 minute walk from the cabin where there is a little park and a small beach where we spend many days there with just our family. Star Lake is crystal clear but do remember to bring water shoes since there are stones to get into the lake until you reach sand. Our 10 year old granddaughter learned to ski in the lake a few years ago. I felt she was safe in the water since it is not a busy lake especially during the week. Star Lake is just a beautiful area with many hiking trails to explore.
The house is clean and well maintained and the owners are great to work with. There is a small store across the road that has anything you might have forgotten. In the store is a cafe with cookies, donuts and coffee and Wi Fi if needed.
We have enjoyed our stay at Star Lake and plan to visit again.
Roomy, beautiful log home in a great location.
My large family had a great time enjoying this property. Everyone had their own space. Home was clean and comfortable with great views as the home sits upon a small hill. Owners helpful with information on local activities. Nice beach and playground a short walk across the road. Good food and drinks at local pubs. Would highly recommend.

Star Lake Retreat LLC
We greatly enjoyed our stay at Star Lake Retreat: the house is spacious, clean, well-equipped, and has everything you may possibly need. You are a very short walk away from the sandy beach and playground at Star Lake and a beautiful Star Lake hiking trail. There are many more trails nearby, so it's a paradise for nature lovers. We also enjoyed grilling and sitting by the fire, making s'mores in the backyard.
The only minor drawback of the house is poor noise insulation -- because it's an all-wood cabin, sounds travel freely and you can hear people talking on the other floor. But that didn't stop us from having a wonderful relaxing vacation.
