Stayed here several months ago. We rented the 3 bedroom, with the possibility of others joining us. Thank goodness they didn't. Going in order: Check in was uncomfortable. We were directed to turn down a road with multiple houses: Some nice, some not so nice. I literally had to go door to door to find the local property owner. I did not find her, but did find a not so pleasant dog. About ready to give up, a young man came by, who turned out to be the local property manager's son, and took us to the house we had rented. Upon arrival we met the property manager Patri. She was very nice, apologetic but frantically trying to air out the house, as a neighbor burned their garbage and the soot and smell had entered the house and pool. The pool was cleaned daily. The leaves and soot on the top (apparently burning garbage is done as a matter of routine near this property) were scooped off daily but a new pool filter is needed to make this pool what it should be. Pool deck and yard needs work. (I suspect this is an owner funded issue, not the property manager or the local manager issue.)
The three bedrooms were advertised as air conditioned. One bedroom never worked. We were told a new cord was needed and would be replaced. It never was. The main bedroom air did not work the first night we were there. It blew air, but not cold. We slept in the other bedroom, but the air conditioner was VERY noisy. To her credit, Patri did have that repaired and it worked good a few days with the air warming as the days went by. (Again, likely an owner issue.)
Cable tv was to be provided. It did not work. There were no boxes or hook up. Apparently it was being used elsewhere. Partway through our stay, it was hooked up. The remote did not work despite a promise to get it to work. A new TV would be in order here, but I suspect local theft is an issue. We were told to keep doors locked, even if we were in the pool outside. Locking up the house is no easy feat. Each door had its own keys. You cannot lock from the inside without keys. You cannot open from the inside to go out without keys. I questioned the safety of getting out with kids in case of fire. Took us well over a month to get our deposit back.
I have never had problems with a VRBO stay or anything this bad with HomeAway. Owner needs to spend some money on this place or take it off as a rental. Has potential, but currently not HomeAway or VRBO suitable.
My family and I stayed at this property for three weeks. To say that this property met and exceeded the requirements for our Costa Rican dream vacation is an understatement. The house had three bedrooms, two bathrooms, a living room, dining room, and a kitchen. The bedrooms were supplied with everything one needs for comfort and convenience. The location was excellent as the house is situated next to a quaint fishing village, which provided a quiet and serene setting. You can hear the waves crashing from every room in the house while macaws are squawking and eating from the almond trees along the back fence line. The pool added to the beautiful setting and provided for a much-needed cool down after a day’s worth of adventure.
What is most important about this property is that the service we received by the staff, but in particular, Patri the Property Manager was superior in every manner. Upon arrival, one member in our party became ill. Patri rushed over to make sure they were okay and then took her to the local doctor to ensure she received care. Patri arranged every detail of our trip so that we did not have to plan anything except for telling her the activity we wished to do. I can say that this was a true vacation in the sense that the house provided relaxation due to its location and the service provided by Patri and her staff. The service was personal and first rate. If you want, a Costa Rican vacation that provides a glimpse of true “Tico” lifestyle while including the adventure or relaxation elements desired then this house will meet or exceed your expectations.
My family and I stayed at this great house for 2 weeks. There were 5 adults and 2 kids in are group and the house was great with 3 bedrooms and 2 baths. The kitchen was very well equipped and the large dinning table was large enough for all of us to eat together. The outside area was also great with and eating area that was great for the morning coffee. The pool was an added bonus and the complete family enjoyed it every day. Patri and the staff are very nice and helpful and the kids loved "Freddie" the cat that would come by every day to visit. The location of the house was nice as Tarcoles was very close and Jaco was only a 15 minute drive away. The beach area in front of the house was nice and always lots of birds to look at but the best part of the house location was the daily visits by the beautiful scarlet macaws!!!! We look forward in returning for our next family holiday.
This is older house so if you want a fancy new house don't stay here. WE had a great time and the pool was great to have. We spent hours by the pool. This was our fourth trip to Costa Rica. There are many nice beaches and walking trails near the house. Patri and staff are great. The pool is cleaned every day and the grounds every other day.We loved the sunsets by the pool every night. We were given the senior discount, so rare.
The property in question met our needs perfectly. We were looking for a rustic beach home in a native Costa Rican neighborhood that could accomodate 6 people comfortably. This unit was just what we needed. We bought freshly caught fish from one of the neighbors as they returned from their nightly fishing trip. Falling asleep to the sound of the waves crashing on the beach was wonderful. Petri and her staff were very accomodating and helpful. We would like to return to this facility again next year for a month.
My wife and I rented this little 'cottage' with great hopes. Unfortunately we were disappointed for 3 reasons 1) there is a highway very close to the property with a long downhill slope and a curve at the bottom. In Costa Rica, the truckers use Jake Brakes to slow down, and they have them like I have never heard in Canada, or any where else in the world. You can expect that when you are trying to sleep or when you are sitting by the pool you will be blasted by the sound of the trucks. They run from 6 am to about 11 pm, but one will go by every hour during the night which will wake you up. 2) the location is very sheltered and it is HOT, but the problem is the main part of the house is not air conditioned and it has a steel roof. It is unbearably hot until the middle of the night, and we were there in November without a lot of sunshine, so I can't imagine what it is like in the sunny, hot season; and 3) the main river in Costa Rica that empties the sewage out of San Jose enters the ocean very close to this house, so the beach is dirty and the ocean is a muddy color with a very bad odor. Also, the pool was very cold and not very attractive. The bed was incredibly hard. The air conditioner in the bedroom was terribly loud and very old. It wasn't a vacation.
We got a good price on the rental, and we were planning on staying 5 nights. We left after the first night and received a refund of 1/3 of the rental. We moved further down the coast and found a fabulous 3 bedroom house, almost new, for only a few dollars more. I could not recommend this 30 or 40 year old cottage it unless you live in a very hot climate and are deaf.
Patri was very nice and I believe she was very disappointed that we were unhappy. She did her best to try to find us something else, but we wanted a place different than the other units she had available. We appreciated getting some refund.
