A resort away from the hustle
The place was much nicer than we expected. A beautiful beachfront, wonderful reefs for snorkeling. The amenities for cooking are excellent, a nice stove, pots, pans, fridge, etc. were much better than our previous hotel! One note, unless you are very familiar with the local addressing custom (which from our experience does not exist), it might be hard to find the place. We spotted it by the color of the house on the second pass!
Amazing spot on the less tourist-y East coast of Tahiti, this gem of a property is situated right on the coast, in a lush green garden. My mornings were spent eating breakfast under the outside covered area - it was super idyllic and peaceful.
The owners were truly wonderful and went well above and beyond to make me feel welcome - from meeting me at the airport when they found out I'd be arriving after dark and therefore unlikely to be able to find the property, providing me with fresh fruit for my first breakfast on the island and also taking me out on a kayak trip to the nearby motu on my last morning.
All the main surf spots are an easy drive away. You will likely need a car if staying here. Also worth noting there is no wi-fi and roaming is super-expensive on Tahiti, so worth getting one of the roaming hotspot devices that you can rent at the airport.
The property itself is small but perfectly formed. The bathroom was well equipped - the water pressure isn't the strongest, so I did find myself topping up with bottles of water when rinsing shampoo out my hair. The kitchen has everything you could need, and the sleeping area comes with 2 Tahitian essentials - a mosquito net and a fan!
If you're looking to really get away from it all, then this is the perfect spot. I had a tech detox, read loads of books, swam in the ocean, and generally recharged. After a week I truly felt like a different person. Highly recommended.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in our little bungalow by the sea. It is very nicely equipped with everything you need. The bed was comfortable and we enjoyed quiet, dark, star filled nights. Of course you can hear roosters but they are not intrusive. We ate most meals sitting next to the sea, and saw dolphins and reef sharks. We had great weather most days and were able to get in some wonderful snorkeling and kayaking, and besides the large variety of fish, we were also lucky to see manta rays, a turtle and an eel. Alain and Anne were lovely landlords. Alain was available to pick us up at the ferry and he was a great tour guide for the trip to the bungalow. We were also able to enjoy a hike up the mountain with Alain, through his family’s orchard and farm. We also enjoyed fresh fruit from the fruit stand at near the end of the driveway. Alain was also able to pick us up and drive us to the airport and we were lucky to spend a little more time with him and Anne and we really enjoyed their company. We highly recommend this location for a spot to relax and recharge your batteries.
A beautiful rustic setting away from it all
The host, Alain, is really friendly, informative and welcoming. One day he took us on a walking tour of the family fruit plantation. Very interesting to see all the tropical fruits being grown and some fantastic views from the plateau behind the coast. Great fruit stall at the entrance to the property. Dining at the outside table by the sea was amazing. The beach is small with mainly rocks close to shore. We used the kayaks to paddle out to the main reef and a small island about 1 km from the beach. We could not find a channel through the reef to the island which was really frustrating but the views looking down to the reef from the kayaks was as good as you get when snorkelling. We never saw anyone else on the beach and only a couple of small fishing boats in the lagoon.
The setting of the accommodation is quite remote. We enjoyed our 3km each way cycle ride (on the bikes provided) to the supermarket before breakfast each day for bread and croissants. The east coast is less populated than the west but every one we met or passed by was very friendly. A truly wonderful place to relax and enjoy nature
Usually, we meet no difficulties to reach the island. Probably the tyde was too low (full moon?) at the hour Donald tryed to accost. The island is a good starting point to walk on the coral barreer reef, at low tyde.
