|Minimum verblijf||5 nachten|
Tranquille.
This is a perfect apartment, but the location makes it even better. My husband and I just spent a week there (October 2016) on our first trip to Paris with no French speaking skills and minimal experience with public transportation. We got lost and made mistakes, but we managed to use the RER (subway) and bus for all of our transportation from the time we landed in Paris. The Chatelet-Les Halls station is a short walk from the apartment and provides access to the rest of Paris. It is an easy one line trip from Charles De Gaulle airport. (If you like to shop, Forum Les Halles is a large mall at the station.)
Restaurants, cafes, and shops of all kinds are literally steps from the door. Some days there is an open air market which is literally just outside the entrance. The Louvre, Cathedral Notre Dame, Musee d'Orsay, and much, much more are within easy walking distance or the subway can be taken to save your feet if needed. Highlights for us were a Gregorian mass at Notre-Dame, watching the sunset from the top of the Eiffel tower, The Louvre, Sainte Chapelle, Musee d'Orsay, Musee Marmottan-Monet, and Musee l'Orangerie. We love the Impressionists and especially Monet. If you share that interest, the last 3 museums on the list are Must See's! Sainte Chapelle is so beautiful - and it's less than a 10 minute walk from the apartment. We also spent one day in Versailles - we're glad we went but it wasn't a highlight for us.
Yola has the apartment stocked to meet all basic needs. I'd read to take your own washcloths to France, but she had those, too. The bed is even adjustable - each side can raise or lower the head and foot sections separately!
We spent a week living at Yola's flat, and had a wonderful time. It is a small but well equipped flat on the 2nd floor of an old building steps from the Les Halles station. The location is perfect: right next to the pedestrian Rue Montorgueil, with all of its cafés and bakeries, and walking distance to most of the major tourist sites in Paris. We were sad to leave!
The apartment was very comfortable and had everything you needed for a long stay. There are many restuarants and shops close. The Les Halles subway stop is just a few blocks away. The Louvre and the Sienne are very close as well. I would recommend the apartment to couples. It is quiet, but once you walk out the courtyard, your are in the middle of a vibrant nieghborhood.
I love the convenience of this Les Halle 1 Arrondisement apartment! Direct RER B train from CDG, and central Les Halle metro station. I do recommend using the Rambuteau exit from the Les Halle station, as it has a lift. The more direct Ste. Eustache porte has been under construction the last couple of years, with construction stairs and a non-functioning down escalator. The apartment is on the 2nd floor up 36 shallow stairs that were easy for us 60 year olds to manage with luggage. The bed, while small by American standards, was very comfortable for two people as it was split and electrically adjustable for each side. There is no laundry facility in the apartment, but there is a small Bosch dishwasher. The apartment was clean and very French. I don't think it would be comfortable for more than two people who share a bed. We love the Sunday market (get the paella to warm up for supper) and the neighboring Rue Montorgueil market street, and ate in more than we ate out. 15 minute walk to the Louvre or Notre Dame, if you choose to walk instead of taking Metro. Apartment is on quiet courtyard. Yola, our host was very welcoming, and we look forward to visiting again.
The apartment is small, and best suited for one person, a couple, or a family with one or two older kids. We had two older kids (8 and 12) with us and it was big enough for us, because they understood when they needed to be quiet and calm so their parents didn't lose their marbles in the small space. It would be a nightmare with small kids who make noise and need lots of space.
Our kids shared the bed in the bedroom and my husband and I used the pull out sofa, which was fine — and my husband is pretty picky about beds and mattresses! (We did have to use a couple of magazines tucked into the frame to make it less wobbly, but it was perfectly comfortable for us.)
The apartment was clean enough, and the kitchen well enough equipped. It was so good to have a fridge and microwave for all those delicious restaurant leftovers (which saved some money too). Note that there are no laundry facilities.
But the most important thing is the location. It's very close to the Chatelet/Les Halles metro station, which means that it's easy to access every tourist destination in Paris that you might want to visit. We walked to the Louvre and to the Centre Pompidou. (There are lots of steps to the apartment and at the metro, so if you need to use a stroller or a wheelchair, I can't imagine this location working for you.)
And Yola is very, very nice! :)
