Beautiful beach and condo views!!!!
The apartment itself was spacious and the view was breathtaking. The beach itself was safe with private with security there which was comforting and re assuring! Upon arrival we did have an issue where there wasn’t electricity but when we went downstairs to contact Manuel he advised us right away where the breaker was to reset it. This was our first time trying an VRBO instead of all inclusive in the Caribbean and overall it was a great trip minus a couple things. We went to boca chica beach and we were harassed to buy items, get massages and lots of other miscellaneous things they wanted us to buy to the point where we just left. The price for taxis is insane. We got charged $30 US dollars to go 5 miles to boca chica beach. On the way back we took an Uber which cost us $9. We note that Uber is not available at the apartment. However, you can take Uber from places to the apartment. We suggest using UBer whenever you can to save money. Be prepared to be hounded by locals to buy items pretty much wherever you go. Thankfully the condo was on a very private beach where there was little to no locals trying to get you to buy things and if there were they took no for an answer and left you alone. We ate three separate times at the restaurant next door the food was great and we also got food delivered and went grocery shopping so there are many options for food wise. All in all it was a great trip but the language barrier was an issue as well due to our Spanish not being the best, use google translation it helps a lot. The staff at aqua loft was very accommodating in all aspects, I definitely would go back to manuel’s Condo!
Thanks for your review Tamra. I hope you can come back soon!
Marvelous Tropical Oasis
It was love at first sight when we saw this listing; it far exceeded our expectations. The condo is spacious, modern, nicely furnished, in great shape. Gorgeous oceanfront grounds with pool and private beach. Picture postcard view. Add to that, a wonderful staff. Fast Internet. Very good AC. We had tears in our eyes when we had to go home.
Units are multi-level so this 2nd floor condo is up high. The 2-story south wall is glass: fixed above and sliders below. We liked how opening the sliders created a great indoor-outdoor living space. Very relaxing. We could see sunrises and sunsets from the condo. We basically had the place to ourselves on weekdays, as owners only come out from the city on weekends/holidays.
We cook most meals while away, so we were delighted with the well-equipped kitchen: pots/pans/meal prep utensils, blender, coffeemaker, microwave, gas stove/oven, frig with good freezer. Gas grill on the porch. We were thankful for start-up provisions (coffee, sugar, salt, cooking oil, juice, milk and bottled water) provided.
The nearest “full service” grocery stores are about a 20-min. drive away. We went to Jumbo in S.P. de Maroris, a huge store with both groceries and home goods; ATM’s on-site. Go by taxi; the driver will wait while you shop. When we went to Santo Domingo for a long wkend, our “go to” driver took us to S.D. and came back for us 4 days later; also, he took us to the Cuevas de las Maravillas (a must-see – save $ on admission by paying in pesos).
The condo comes well-equipped w/linens, lush bath towels, beach towels, soap/shampoo/conditioner, paper/cleaning supplies. There is a laundry downstairs, but consider hiring the property’s maid to clean/do laundry. She came once a week during our month’s stay and did a very good job at a good rate. We can’t say enough good things about all of the building’s wonderful staff. Everyone was friendly, polite, helpful. The front desk is manned 24/7. Upon arrival, we contacted owner Manuel with a few questions. After that, we contacted manager Alejandro and his front-desk staff. No one speaks Eng., but it was easy communicating using phone apps and Google Translate. The staff keeps the place immaculately clean/tidy.
For excursions, check out Catalina Island snorkeling trips with ProExcursions. Great experience/value; contact via web site. For an extra fee, they arranged round-trip transpo. If you have time, allow a few days for the Colonial Zone. Los Tres Ojos cave is nearby.
Thanks for your review Kurt. It was great having you as a guest and am so glad you enjoyed your stay. The guys at aqua send their regards!
Great beachfront tranquility!
The facilities and Manuel's apartment exceeded our expectations. Manuel was upfront about needing a new TV remote which he delivered to us on our 2nd day. We were traveling with our 12 year old daughters who had a separate "wing" bedroom/bathroom all to themselves and so did we. The view from the apartment is amazing! We spent a great deal of time on the balcony taking in the warmth and sounds of the waves. We were also very impressed with the attentive staff. Always willing to help and even offered to go grocery shopping for us. We spent some time in Samana Bay and ultimately felt the southern coastline to be far prettier. All-in-all a wonderful vacation. Thank you Manuel.
Thanks for review Sara! It was nice meeting you and your family.
Great time and loved the property.
My fiance and had a great time and loved our stay. The only gripe we had was that the tv cable never worked, but who needs a tv with an ocean view like the one in this place.
I am glad you enjoyed your stay!. Sorry about the cable tv. It was working fine the weekend before. It was probably a TV setting or something. I thought Alejandro had fixed it.
We enjoyed our stay. The staff was wonderful! We spoke very little Spanish yet the staff was helpful
This was our first trip to the Dominican Republic. We made our own experience by going on our own and relying on some local help. The language barrier was difficult yet we met all friendly people during our week stay. I was very nervous for our safety because of the poverty yet we experienced no beggars only smiling faces. The condo was very relaxing and the staff brought out us rum and decks of cards plus many miscellaneous items. The condo supplies were good however I would recommend grocery shopping the day you arrive. We came in late and woke up to zero food and water. Or pack accordingly. The accommodations were clean apon arrival and they washed our towels when we left. We ate several times at the restaurant next door and that was nice to have handy. We ordered pizza several times pool side and drinks from next door. It was quite and relaxing. The WiFi worked, tv channels were limited and would have love to have brought some movies. As a whole we had a very good time. We have only stayed at all inclusive places if you are not self reliant this is not the place for you. We drove and did many excursions. Many people would not be comfortable doing such with no speed limits nor regulations you see elsewhere. Not for the faint of heart. It would be good if their was more up dated material for activities for families and couples to go to. It would be nice to have a clearer taxi service in a safe vehicle. Yikes, it was a couple of scary rides in a small seatbeltless, no window rolling down, gas fumed car. Overall my teen daughters 17-19 loved the trip and enjoyed four wheeling and Flintstones cave dune buggy ride. We enjoyed our stay but have many friends that could not handle the adventure of this country because of the poverty and language barrier.
Thanks for your review! I am glad you enjoyed your stay. As you said this is a different experience from the all inclusive resort and allows you to enjoy the local culture a bit more. I hope to have you back soon!
The apartment at Juan Dolio was mostly positive with a few negatives. The positives were: the view, the beautiful well kept grounds, the swimming pool and the staff at Aqua Loft. The negatives are mainly because we have stayed at a VRBO in St. John USVI that is so amazing that it makes it hard to live up to. The apartment at Juan Dolio did not provide any basic supplies such as salt, pepper, paper towels and toilet paper. It took us awhile to figure out the air conditioning and the hot water. Also the ocean was not very clear so snorkeling was not an option and the surrounding neighborhood feels run down.
Thanks four your review. I just came back from the condo and all the AC units and water heater are running fine. They received scheduled maintenance a couple of weeks before your arrival. I will ask the guys to check them again. I am sorry about the rough ocean. 95% of the time it is very calm and the water is crystal clear, you can see the bottom of the ocean while swimming.
