Mr Bandone was very helpful. He picked us up from the Manarola station and took us back. Always concerned if we were ok. Good room with all the amenities
We loved the short stop at this very interesting and hospitable host. Sky mountains and the sea will remain in our memory of this beautiful place. I wish happiness and success to the owner and his family. Everything matches the description may even better as we thought. We advise travelers
We stayed here for 10 days on our honeymoon. It is located in Groppo, which is a tiny village on the mountain overlooking Manarola. It is a 15-20 minute hike to get to get down to the main villages.
The pathways go through vineyards and cute back yards, but the path is easy to follow by the red/white markers. (I do suggest getting a Cinque Terre Guidebook for information on all the hiking paths).
In Manrola, you can have access to the internet at a little internet cafe- just pay a little fee to use their computers. Most of the places to eat are good- but our favorite in Manarola is Trattoria Dal Billy. Celso, our landlord was a gem! He picked us up from the train station and took us to where we stayed. He speaks English fairly well, but he also has a daughter-in-law who is American living in the village. Celso and his family are very accessible.
Cinque Terre can be touristy in the main areas. That is what my husband and I loved about this apartment- you felt like one of the locals. You were close enough to the action, but far away enough to have a private and romantic adventure.
By staying in the same place for our whole vacation, we met and friended neighbors/locals and were even invited to dinner more than once. Every day we hiked (that IS what you do in Cinque Terre) to one of the 5 villages and then grabbed some groceries and hiked back to eat and watch the sunset on the beautiful terrace that is next to the apartment. It has a little table/chairs with a kiwi plant canopy.
The apartment is clean and has everything you could need. Honestly, we had to purchase a few things for the kitchen (garlic, butter), because we cooked at the apartment a third of the time. I really did love being able to wash our clothes in the little washer (I bought some detergent at a little shop in town) and I was able to hang our clothes to dry on the terrace.
If you are too tired to hike up the mountain, there is a small van that takes people up and down at certain hours of the day.
It is so fun to go through the maze of Groppo to get to our apartment. There is a photo of the little village posted with photos of the apartment. There are no stores in Groppo, but there is one winery up on the hill and a little cafe in the next little village over up on the mountain. An insider secret- in Groppo there is an AMAZING modern upscale restaurant owned by one of the locals called Cappun Magru in casa di Marin. Seriously- make time for this one.
