We completely agree with the last review (D.G.). We had a quiet and very relaxed holiday and enjoyed the house and surroundings very much. The house is characteristic and although there are neiboring houses, we were happy to find it stood not in a compound or otherwise was part of a new development of "beach houses", as we noticed on the road to the east. Oktober proved to be a very good month to visit North Cyprus: not too hot, but lots of sun with a cool breeze. Everything you can wish for is there, including three restaurants in walking distance.
We spent a wonderful week at Joanne´s Villa in October 2016. It is a lovely home with a wonderful view onto the sea. The beach is in walking distance which was very important to us. The beach is nice and good for children and also nice for snorkeling.
The Villa itself is a nice stone house. The pictures on the web are just like as it was. The house was very clean. Bed linen and towels were provided, also very clean and fresh. The equipment of the kitchen is ok. You find everything you need. Electricity and water is on a seperate bill which will be paid by a deposit. As we were quite "green" the costs per person were less than one GBP per person and day (we did not use air con or tv at all).
The contact with Joanne was quite easy. She is a very nice lady, answering quite soon. We had some difficulties with the money transfer, but after all, it worked quite well.
The furniture on the terrace is not in a good condition. Some of the chairs were for use any more. We did not really care about it as we took the living room table and its chairs and set on the terrace towards the sea. The only annoying thing is the coastal road that just runs behind the house and the nice terrace. If you are a little sensitive you might feel disturbed. But the nice view, the wonderful location, the nice beach and many interesting places and possibilities for hikes, as well as the nice owner, made it a wonderful week after all.
All communications were quick and fantastic with the owner Joanne and the property manager Denise. Pick up at the airport was on time through the transfers arranged with Denise and the taxi driver a wonderful help. The journey from Larnaca to the Villa was about 1.5 hours across the border control area which is handled by the taxi driver without the need to leave the car.
The Villa itself...WOW. What a location. The photographs don't do it justice. The beautiful sea is a stones throw away. It is always so still that you don't hear it. You just see the expanse in front of you. The stunning mountains behind you make for a quite unique and incredible view. At night time, on the balcony, the silhouette of the mountains is quite a sight against the backdrop of the dark peaceful night and the stars above.
All shops are a 10-15 minute drive away. Very easy to reach on straightforward roads. Hiring a car is a huge help. Kyrenia is 15 minutes away with its lovely harbour and places to eat. Well worth spending a few nights eating out in this area and/or going for a drink. Even for families. There are 2/3 bars and restaurants in Alagadi (5 minute walk) with fantastic food.
We barely left the pool. Our children aged 3-8 all loved it. A few inflatables purchased at the supermarket and we were away with all the fun. The pool is brilliantly deep at one end allowing for adults to make the most of the pool as well.
The breeze from the sea is fantastically refreshing.
Turtle beach is worth a visit. If you are fortunate to book onto a hatchling release. Not many places are available and you need to call around 11:45 each morning to see if there are any releases.
Other advice - don't buy too much food. Make trips every couple of days as the food and milk do not keep. The fridge functioned but I think it is down to the lack of preservatives. BBQs were wonderful but we did waste food that we couldn't eat in time.
We were there a week without having to change our currency once. English money is accepted everywhere. 40TL equating to £10 appox when we were there.
Meals were fantastic value eating out. The Courtyard in Kyrenia probably the most expensive and questionable. I couldn't decipher the receipt. The Corner Room in Kyrenia and Benoz at the bottom of the road near the Villa are fantastic.
We will definitely go again and with what we have learned, have an even better time. The is no hint of trouble or threat. Northern Cyprus is wonderful. A must see
Our return visit to this wonderful place. There have been a few changes since our last visit, all of them positive. As usual, the villa was very clean with everything you could wish for. The kitchen is very well equipped, and the lounge area is nicely decorated and furnished. There is patio furniture on the master bedroom patio on the first floor with a view over the med an ideal place to sit with a glass of wine watching the sun go down. The pool is checked and maintained regularly, and is always clean and clear,The availability of WiFi was a huge help to us so that we could keep in touch with home without running up huge Phone bills. Also, the addition of a TV with Satellite was great for tired kids at the end of a hot day out , or exhausted from playing in the crystal clear pool. Being North Cyprus, the electricity supply can be a little temperamental, but there were plenty of candles to hand, and it actually was nice to just sit and talk together, the kids loved it! Denise was always on hand to advise or support us, and is a mine of local information. The minor problems we had were dealt with very quickly and competently, she and Andy between them gave us confidence that what ever happened, it would be dealt with. The location of the villa still takes my breath away when you open the lounge door to the front or rear, My family love it here, and I suspect we will be returning again, probably with friends and family in tow.
We stayed at this lovely villa for a week in July 2012 and would highly recommend – we’ll definitely be going back!
We couldn't have wished for more from a week long holiday where we just needed to relax and re-charge. The location is fantastic as a completely relaxing 'get away from it all' break. Having your own private pool is an absolute bonus, especially with it being over 40 degrees on all 7 days of our stay.
The very positives from our perspective: the villa itself and the facilities - there wasn't anything we needed which wasn't there; private pool - it was amazingly hot for us (!); location, being away from the main tourist areas; peacefulness; having 3 decent restaurants within walking distance; choice of supermarkets nearby; proximity to Kyrenia for a change some evenings when we visited the harbour area. We didn’t have any problems with the road noise other reviewers have mentioned.
North Cyprus itself was new to us, but didn't disappoint. We liked the fact that it's still unspoilt by the global brands; the food was good and everything really fresh, the people very friendly and there was a good choice of places to eat and things to do.
It was also very useful to have Denise at hand if anything were to go wrong or if we needed anything. She was very friendly and approachable, but at the same time unobtrusive – it’s a definite benefit having someone with local knowledge on hand if needed.
The booking process was very easy; the information on the web is a very accurate reflection of the villa and surroundings; Joanne provided good communication throughout and before we travelled with clear information provided beforehand; there was also a very quick refund of the deposit at the end of our stay.
All in all, a fantastic break at a fantastic location!
A villa with a view to die for, we had a fantastic holiday staying at this lovely villa, on arrival the fridge was wellstocked by Denise, taxi and hire car was on time with no problems. We spent lovely evenings sat on the balcony with views out to the sea.
Turtle beach project is only a five minute walk away, and if your there at the right time of year you can be lucky enough to be able to release them into the sea,
Benoz restaurant 10 mins walk down the road is the best Bar in the village, the owner is very friendly, the food is good especially for fresh fish.
During your stay if you have any problems or need some information Denise is on the end of the phone and is very helpful.
One little problem,if you come from a quiet village the noise of the road behind does wake you up in the mornings (early), if your not used to it. The villa could benefit from double glazing being installed.
All in all, we had a fantastic holiday and would definately return to this villa for another wonderful holiday in the future.
