A true Irish getaway
Our family traveled to Ireland for a wedding and then hoped to find a place on the west coast near Doolin (for the most amazing Irish music). As our family group increased in size, the property owner, Anne, went out of her way to move us into a larger cottage. It was perfect for us. Being October, it was not swimming weather, but the nearby beach was still magnificent to walk on and experience these emotional Irish weather changes. Our sons/grandsons loved climbing on the Burren. Each night we drove the short distance into Doolin to hear wonderful musicians and enjoy the Guinness and Irish food. The walking trails along the coast are exciting.
The cottage fireplace was our evening gathering place for playing games and eating popcorn.
The rainbows in this area are seen daily and as the moon was just past full, we even saw a moon rainbow one night.
If you are particular about your coffee, bring your own makings.
We would return here in a heartbeat if the opportunity arises.
A lovely experience with Anne in Fanore!
We had an amazing time visiting Ireland, and largely it was due to the experience we had with Anne at her cottage. We arrived on Saturday and were amazed at the location and views from the cottage!
The surrounding mountains and landscapes were nothing short of spectacular. Anne’s hospitality was warm and appreciated. The cottage was extremely clean and with 4 beds/2 baths, fit our party of 5 perfectly. She provided us with peat for evening fires in the fireplace and a charcoal grill for BBQs on the porch when we didn’t feel like eating out. (We used a fantastic local craft butcher in Lisdoonvarna named Neil Hawes for our meat!)
The cottage was a perfect location for our home base on the Wild Atlantic Way. It was fairly close proximity to many small towns, pubs, and local attractions. We made several trips to Doolin (for cruises to Aran Islands, trip to the Cliffs of Moher, and pubs with traditional Irish music), Lisdoonvarna, Ballyvaughn (for a fabulous seafood dinner at Monks), as well as a few trips to Galway. The landscape is beautiful and there is so much to do.
We appreciate Anne’s kindness and helpful hints to explore the area, and will DEFINITELY be back to rent from her again the next time we are in Ireland (which will hopefully be sooner rather than later!)
Nice place but inaccurately advertised
Lovely house, clean and tidy and a lovely host.
Doesn't sleep 9 people, as advertised, and there isn't a room with two twin beds or a room with a single bed, as outlined in the posting, which was a problem for me, as my two boys had to share a double bed, instead of sharing a room.
The listing clearly states that the cottage sleeps 7 adults and I can provide baby cots for 2 of the double rooms if required to bring the total to 9.
Your booking was for 3 adults and 2 children. I know that included 1 couple and therefore the remaining adult and the 2 children should have been able to occupy the remaining 3 rooms giving each their own room and nobody needed to share a bed. It seems that you brought additional people with you and did not inform me of this. Had your done so I would have endeavoured to accommodate your additional guests.
I hope you enjoyed your stay despite this misunderstanding.
The best of the Burren!!!
Can't say enough positive about this property. I'm a travel agent specializing in family travel and this place ticks ALL the boxes. The home itself was spotlessly clean and well appointed for the large groups it can accommodate. The upstairs suite is perfect for the grandparents and the downstairs set up is perfect for mom/dad and 3 littles. The kitchen was perfectly serviceable and made making meals for the family a snap. The fridge is small but the local markets are close enough the replenishment isn't an issue.
The location is SUPERB. Easy drive to Doolin/Cliffs and also north to Ballyvaughn and Galway. The Burren is AMAZING and accessible in your backyard. Our kids weren't there 5 mins and they had run up and over the hill, past the cows and down to stream. The local beach is superb, probably downright amazing in hot weather. The local pub serves delicious food all day and is located right across from a small grocery store that carries all the basics.
Anne was a stellar host, so friendly and engaging. She lives right next door and can help with anything you may need. Just know that there is a charge for used electricity due the end of your stay, our family of 7 x 7 days came to €50.
I cannot not say enough positives about this place. Buy some peat at the local store, settle in with some wine and listen to the wind in the Burren. You will NOT regret it.
