Quiet and welcoming.
Phinney cottage was an absolute delight.
Gracious hosts, a wonderful location and well equipped - a stove, a microwave, couch and sofa/bed, lots of light for evening reading, hotel-sized soaps, soft linens and blankets etc. etc. The fridge even has an on/off switch if you find it too noisy at night! (like me)
There were some airplane traffic overhead when I was there - turns out the airport sometimes change the routes, but they were well overhead and did not bother me.
I didn't get to use the TV or the sound system (yes, separate systems), but they are there and of course wi-fi.
I was concerned about the skylight which has a screen but doesn't blackout (which my hosts made sure I knew of when I asked about the skylight), however the sun was indirect (I was there early Novemeber) and had no issues at all - slept in easily.
The room seems to be insulated well-
I turned the A/C on for a couple of hours (heating) and it lasted me the night very well. There is a separate A/C for the bathroom which is very convenient.
The cottage is on a ridge - if you plan on walking be ready for some uphill "hikes" on your way back. I walked both to the nearby lake (15 min walk) and to Ballard (30-40 minutes), and I enjoyed both.
The zoo and the Burke museum are also close by.
Phinney Avenue has many eateries/bars. I got awful service at Zeek's pizza so I would not recommend going there however there are plenty of other places, and I ended spending a lovely evening at a sports bar which I don't remember its name (soccer funs. I know.... the whole city is).
I took the bus too/from and it was smooth. One transit to get to the airport. The bus passes every 10-15 min on Phinney Ave.
The neighborhood is very very quiet and I truly enjoyed it. Anne and Peter are gracious hosts, made sure to give me as much info as possible when I arrived, offer advice yet giving me complete privacy - the perfect balance :-)
If you need to stay in the area I highly recommend it!
Quiet stay in prime Phinney Ridge location
After a busy 10-day journey around Western Washington, I knew I would want a quiet place to stay in a convenient Seattle location for my final week in the NW. The Phinney Cottage fit the bill. It was easy for me to narrow down my lodging search due to the cottage's proximity to Green Lake, Woodland Park Zoo, and some of my favorite restaurants. And if you are driving around Seattle, there is easy access to Aurora/Hwy 99. Peter and Anne are kind and helpful hosts. The cottage has all you need: kitchen/cooking area, comfy bed, storage space. I will certainly stay again!
