Margie was a warm and welcoming host. The apartment was exactly as pictured and described. The view was incredible and access to the beach was within steps from the front door. I believe we stayed in the off season so we were actually the only people in the apartment complex! That made it so we had essentially a private pool. Despite being the only ones there, there was still a night time security guard and daytime maintenance men. The maintenance men were so kind. At one point, I asked them how to cut open a coconut. Not only did they cut one open so my kids could drink straight from it but they also climbed a tree to pick more so that each kid had one! So sweet!
This property is perfect for that quiet getaway to paradise! The property manager, Jose, is beyond helpful. He has to be one of the nicest people I've had the pleasure of meeting in my life. The rental is VERY clean and tidy as well. I will stay here again for certain.
We spent five days in the appartment. It was awesome. Perfect sea view, outstanding appartment. We loved it.
I have been coming to Puerto Rico 2-3x a year for the past 8 years, mostly mission work with our church, and the occasional vacation. This trip was the first time we were able to bring our 22 year old daughter, and our 7 year old and 10 month old grand children. I had also never stayed on the north side of PR, aside from a night in Old San Juan.
We were originally coming to stay with our church family high in the central mountains, but due to a medical emergency, had to find a place to stay that was somewhat close to San Juan. Personally, I don't care for San Juan and did not want to stay in the city. I found Margie's rental online with only 2 days' notice. She worked with us in all aspects of the rental agreement due to the very short notice of our trip needs. She was easy to reach and very helpful!
Our flight originally had us landing early of check-in time and Margie worked so that we could arrive early - but then our flight was delayed 2 hours, our car rental place was packed and took an hour, and we had to stop to get some food because the plane had run out of food for purchase. So instead of arriving 2 hours early, we arrived 2 hours late and Margie was still there to meet us and give us a tour of the apt!
Everything is comfortable - the master bed and the guest bed are so comfortable. Hands down the most comfortable beds I've ever slept on in a vacation rental. They easily compare to the luxury beds you'd find in a Mariott or Hyatt high-end hotel room (and you'd pay a lot more for them too!). Margie had everything we would need there for us - beach towels, bath towels, soap, shampoo, conditioner-- and full size bottles, nothing small that runs out after one day. We did not have to purchase anything for the apartment! There were paper products and plenty of dishes.
The beach was beautiful. Right in front of the apartment it is definitely too rough to swim, with some semi-dangerous currents for the kids. But it is good to walk in. The sand is super soft. You can take your car to the beach next door and bring all your stuff with you, or you can just walk over there and swim! It's calmer and swimmer friendly (Playa Mar Chiquita). My kids also enjoyed having the beach cats to play with - they were very friendly and funny.
If my travels have us returning to Manati, we will definitely be back. We wish we could have stayed for more than 3 nights. Thank you Margie for an unexpectedly wonderful trip!!
Let me start by saying I'm pretty picky. Margie's condo and Mar Chiquita itself exceeded my expectations. Margie answered our inquiry within the hour and kept in constant communication with us before and during our stay.
We arrived very late (midnight!) and Junior, her property manager, was there within 3 minutes of our phone call to greet us and give us a quick "tour" of the apartment and recommend grocery stores, beaches and sites, etc. He assured us that if we needed anything to call and he would be there. He was such a gentleman. Margie, the owner, even had sangria and fruit waiting for us.
We woke up the next morning to clear skies, the sound of waves and took in the spectacular oceanfront view with our coffee on the balcony. The apartment was immaculate. The master had a private bathroom with bathtub, shower and bidet (which caused no end of laughter for my husband and I-- we're from Philly.) the second queen bedroom had the hall shower. The private deck and garden steps away was yet another space to sit and relax. It even had the most beautifully mosaic-ed outdoor shower. I fell asleep in the hammock on the beach with a book the first day.
Some days the beach in front of the condo was too rough to swim in -- but, Mar Chiquita, within a VERY short walk, had another beach that during the week was almost deserted. It had a beach bar and interesting rock formations. During the weekend this beach was more crowded (with music from car stereos) but there were food trucks serving yummy PR food and it was more like a party atmosphere. I do not speak Spanish but everyone was friendly and never made me feel like a "stupid tourist".
Some days there was a cloud burst of rain that lasted 15 to 20 minutes that didn't deter the fun at all. We even hiked around nearby locations and discovered a few very, very private beaches in the rain that we swore we would come back to. We were very sad to leave.
Oh, Don't miss the awesome cave right outside the gated property.
We will stay at Margie's when we come back!
