Excellent location

Excellent accommodation and everything you could need is supplied for you - even a pint of milk for a cuppa when you arrive. Great location for exploring the west of Cornwall and you are only 20 minutes from St Ives or Penzance. There are a few walks in the local area to walk the dog straight from the cottage.

Lovely Cottage, well equipped in nice quiet lane

The property was very clean and well equipped. Good sized Kitchen & living room for four + adults and lovely garden. Very welcoming. Beds very comfortable. Convenient location. Thank you for the loan of your cottage and I look forward to being able to stay there again in the future.

Dharma House a lovely cottage

I chose Dharma House for it's location as we were attending a family wedding! The owner's directions and instructions were superb and on our arrival we found fresh flowers, tea, coffee, sugar and biscuits. The fridge freezer was on and there was milk and ice cubes. The cottage was very clean comfortable and well equipped. It felt much more like a home than a holiday rental. I would recommend it as a base for exploring Cornwall.

Another great holiday at Dharma House

This was our second stay in Dharma House. Its such a lovely cottage, extremely well equipped and comfortable. Everything you could need is provided. The cottage is clean and well maintained. The garden is charming. The property is very well situated for visiting lots of lovely beaches and so many tourist attractions. We are hoping to stay again next year !

Terrible experience. Steer clear!

When I initially contacted the owner, I made it very clear that we had 2 dogs which seemingly presented no problem. Before confirming the booking, I asked for clarification that the garden was secure for them, as they would normally spend most of the day outside. The owner assured me that this was the case so I proceeded with payment, which included a surcharge for the dogs. Upon arrival, we were very surprised and taken aback to find that the garden was far from secure. The perimeter wall was at best 3 feet high in places and our lively dogs cleared this very easily. As the cottage is located adjacent to an extremely busy road - the A392, we really couldn't risk leaving the dogs outside at any time. I emailed the owner with my concerns and he agreed to give me a partial refund as a goodwill gesture. The holiday was severely marred by the lack of secure boundaries and the fact that we had to contain the dogs indoors. Our youngest dog being unaccustomed to this unfortunately urinated on the first floor landing casing a wet patch on the rather tired and faded carpet. I bought premium carpet cleaner and took great pains to clean the area thoroughly before leaving the property in good order and vacating on the 30th July. After a few weeks I emailed the owner inquiring about the deposit and the refund only to be informed that because of the urine 'accident' he was not only retaining the refund we had agreed on, but also the deposit!

I am outraged by his actions and feel it only right to warn people against renting this cottage. I think its important to point out that the cottage is actually semi detached and the next door neighbours present as quite hostile. Apart from the 'Private keep out' signs around the adjoining property's perimeter, there is a distinct lack of privacy as the garden is shared and the noise from the very busy A392 very disruptive, hence I don't think its accurate to describe it as a 'quiet' hamlet at all. The owner was dishonest in his dealings with us and I find it reprehensible that he has seized on our dog's urine incident as a pretext to withhold our deposit to finance a long-overdue replacement of his tatty carpets. Overall, steer clear!

Reactie van de eigenaar I am sorry that this guest has been so disappointed with our cottage and with my decision regarding the damage deposit. In most respects the guest’s comments are wrong or misleading: 1. The garden was discussed, a description provided and the guests advised to check the Google Streetview where the road-side wall was clearly shown. 2. I was not told that the guests intended to leave the dogs in the garden whilst the party went out. This is excluded by the contract and I would have told the guest so. 3. The pet policy as part of the contract with which the guest agreed. The policy states that dogs must be well-behaved and mature, not be left alone at the property, and not allowed on the upper floor. Guests can choose not to proceed before any money is paid. 4. The damage was not only on the landing but also in the sitting room and an upstairs bedroom. 5. The cottage is the middle of a terrace of three cottages and not semi-detached. 6. The garden is not shared and is solely for our guests. Cottage 1 has a garden across the lane, beyond the car park, Cottage 3 has its own garden in front of their cottage, and Dharma House (2) has a garden in front of our property for our guests. 7. Dharma House is nowhere near the A392 (ends near Newquay). I imagine the guest means the A30 which can be busy in high season. Dharma House is on Gilly Lane, however, and within the hamlet, away from the A30. Gilly Lane itself has little traffic. 8. My neighbours do not usually ‘present as quite hostile’. I have no idea why they should appear so. The guests complained separately that the beaches were closed to dogs. It is true that most popular beaches in Britain are closed to dogs from Easter to October. Cornwall has many very popular beaches. Check online for the specific dates for beaches. As already said, the damage was more extensive than the guest says and the cottage was left in a poor state generally. I do not grab people’s damage deposit and in 11 years have only made deductions on three occasions: badly burnt rug, electric kettle melted on gas stove and missing towels. I explain clearly in my communications that the damage deposit is for my security and I will use it when warranted but I accept wear-and-tear and I do not count the cutlery (unless it’s all missing). Many guests have brought pets in the past and I have never had these issues and they have been very welcomed. I ask that viewers of Dharma House take my other reviews on this website as more balanced.
