I have booked many times with VRBO. Never has an owner called me three weeks before my arrival date to ask, " do I still plan on coming ?" That was the first bad sign.
The inside of the house looked like the pictures, minus a few minor things. The outdoors was a different story. There had been a MAJOR pidgin problem. You could still see where the poop had run down from the top beams on the pagoda. The worst part was the sticky goo the contractor put on the pagoda to deter the birds from landing there. The birds got it everywhere. The windows, doors, patio, patio furniture and the BBQ. The entire area was unusable for the first week and a half, until WE cleaned some of the furniture. The owner/manager is very good at telling people what they want to hear. Unfortunately she is horrible with the follow through. We were promised that the gardener would come to put in flowers and clean up the yard. He never came. We had to call and ask just to have the lawn cut, forget about the flowers. The fellow working on cleaning up the bird goo was at the house at least 5 days.
Our last full day was the topper to a tough time at this property. The pool man is knocking on the door at 10:00 am. He is there to empty the pool so he can start on the jackhammering in the morning. We have heard nothing about this from The owner/manager. Of course we protested and thought he would be back in the morning. Five minutes later I walked outside and the pool water has already gone down four inches, the man was draining the pool !!! He did stop. We did spend the day in the pool. It was a very stressful way to start the last day of vacation.
My question to you HomeAway, did the people who were renting the home after us know the pool would be out of commission. Hopefully so, but I am doubtful. Once again The owner/manager talks a good game.
My husband chatted with The owner/manager a few days before we vacated the premises. When we asked about a possible 25% back on the rental price for all the problems, we were offered 50%. We are not waiting by the mailbox LOL
We should have reported the problems at the property right away instead of trying to deal with The owner/manager.
I also wanted to mention I put a call into you people at HomeAway a couple weeks ago. I sat on the phone waiting to talk to a representative and then got an answering machine. I did leave a message but no one has gotten back to me. I would have appreciated a call back.
Lenny was great to work with and had her home perfectly outfitted for hosting large family gatherings. The grand dinning table seats 10 easily and the pool is ideal. Would rent from her again in a heartbeat!
We housed the Great American Foodie Fest logistics team at this home and they really enjoyed their stay there. It was beautiful and spacious ... they even took a couple dips in the pool at 50 degrees! BRRRRR!
They also decided to stay an extra night and enjoy the house.
Would be a great place for a retreat and team building as well!
