Simply stated….yet luxurious. Historic….yet modern. One of the best vacation spots ever….at least for my wife and I. I always hesitate to bang the drums too loudly when we discover a gem of a place. The mental dilemma of wanting the world to know just what a special place we have discovered….yet wanting to keep the secret to ourselves. The Eagle River Lighthouse is one of those places. The views are spectacular. The sunroom and deck have been designed to take full advantage of those views. The kitchen is very well appointed and large. The dining room adjoins the kitchen and those family/group type meals are easy to accomplish. The bedrooms are all large, the beds extremely comfortable and the linens are pure quality. The two full bathrooms feature showers that you’ll want in your own home someday. The home is large enough that you can have your own “space” if that is what you like and the solid construction offers great noise isolation. Yet, a very short walk can bring you right back to the activity center of the vacation home. Again, the best of two worlds!
The owners (Jan and Bud) are attentive to the details and very responsive to your questions and/or needs during your stay. We arrived to find coffee beans from a local business awaiting the coffee grinder….a very nice touch. The Northern Lights were out several nights during our stay, we received a text to inform us and to make sure we were watching nature’s light show.
The town of Eagle River, MI and its population of 40 people or so is not the vacation spot for everyone. But for those of us who appreciate the history and the quaint nature of this Northern location, it’s about as good as it gets. Thanks Jan and Bud for preserving a piece of history and creating a place where friends and family can gather and enjoy The Keweenaw.
Our stay at the Eagle River Lighthouse was fabulous. The lighthouse was so clean and inviting. There were many rooms to sit, relax, read a book and entertain. The kitchen had everything you needed. Jan was so delightful and very helpful.
Our family enjoyed hiking to the falls, exploring nearby trails, skipping rocks, swimming in Lake Superior (BRR...) and many trips to the general store for ice-cream. Our kids barely used any electronics because they were too busy exploring, laughing and enjoying each other's company. Eagle River is a quaint little Michigan town! Thanks for sharing your beautiful historical lighthouse.
