I brought my family and dogs to this vacation rental for 2017 spring break. It is probably the most "rural" property we've stayed, and also the most unique! As soon as we arrived, kids and dogs immediately went flying around and exploring.
This container-converted cottage accommodated our family of 4 very comfortably. Both mattress are firm (very important to us). The bedroom in the end of toilet has a sliding door. Girls love it as a completely private bunker bed to have loud party in it! The small fridge is big enough to store our food and drinks for 2 nights. Owner has maintained the little house very clean.
No cook stove or coffee maker, but we were able to cook using our own electric cooker and water kettle. The outdoor shower took me a while to learn where is the switch and how to get good warm water (it can get pretty hot!) A/C is good and quiet.
As the description said, no internet or cable TV. AT&T signal is good, T-mobile not so.
The sheer beauty of this property is it being so rural, basic and functional! I would give our stay a 4-star rating, but no doubt my girls and dogs would add the 5th one.
Want to earn some good-boy points from your significant other? Book a weekend here. I have traveled a ton and stayed in many a vacation rental but this property is one I could see myself permanently relocating to. The perfect distance from the big city to be a reasonable getaway, this ungainly metal box turned cozy cabin home is exactly where you need to be to unwind and take in all the best of the hill country. The site itself is enough-3 acres of cleared Texas scrubland with an outdoor shower, fire pit, horse shoe pits and tire swing all lit up by string after string of twinkling lights. It's all situated right off RM 12 between Dripping Springs and Wimberley, a stones throw from the legendary Salt Lick BBQ and the ultra romantic and scenic Driftwood Estates Winery and Vineyard.
The property was clean and cozy and Steven is very helpful if you need him and even left us some recommendations and business cards of some of the local proprietors.
Where should I start?? This place was really amazing. There were six of us total staying in the container, and it was cozy! :) Six is definitely the max -- I think four would be ideal.
Speaking of ideal, this location is just wow. While you're on the property, it feels like you're far from civilization. It's rustic and remote (on 3 acres down a dead-end dirt road), surrounded by lots of brush and trees. You can see one of the neighbors places from the property, but we didn't ever hear them or see people. It didn't detract from the feel of the place at all in my opinion.
As far as activities go, there is plenty to do on-site. There are yard games like horseshoes and some other games we saw in the container but didn't play (can't remember what they are), a fire pit (for when there isn't a burn ban in effect), and plenty of stumps to sit around on outdoors. The yard is equipped with tons light strings you can turn on at night to give the place a really charming atmosphere! Perfect for cracking open a few cold ones and having some fun with friends.
Off-site there are literally tons of breweries and a few distilleries within 20 minutes of this place. Couple of our favorites were Jester King and Treaty Oak. Hamilton Pool and Jacob's Well are also not too far away. Wimberley is really close too. We probably could have stayed there a week or more and not run out of stuff to do.
There's a mini-fridge/freezer inside that's big enough to store some food and a few drinks. It's not a tiny mini-fridge. The place was clean and and comfortable and looked just like the pictures. Everyone was really impressed!
The one minor drawback was that the instructions for the place weren't very easy to read, but I mentioned this to the owner so they might be improved for the next guests.
Owner is super chill and very helpful. We all definitely recommend this place and would stay again! If you stay here, you won't be disappointed.
This was a unique and very fun experience to stay in a converted shipping container. We were the first customers to do so. They weren't even completed landscaping the property. The on site activities kept my 8 year old son happy...trampoline, tetherball and even the outdoor shower. He told me that he would shower every day if I built him an outdoor shower at our house.
Container was quite cozy and long and narrow which took a bit of getting used to. The location is close to lots of stuff to keep you busy. We choose to visit Hamilton Pools, Westcave Preserve, Jacobs Well and The Salt Lick. There are also wineries, breweries and even a rum distillery very close.
Even though the neighbors house is visible, we had complete privacy and didn't see any humans while we were on property. We did get a visit from Cole, the neighbors very friendly dog!
The wine bottle sculpture at the entrance was quite unique and whimsical.
