Lovely home close to town
We enjoyed our stay at this spacious home, close to town. We got a kick out of the nightly barking dogs. Climbing the 72 steps was only a real problem when we first arrived and had to carry heavy luggage. Gustavo was responsive and helpful. I would stay here again.
Nice Home but lacking the vacation rental touch
Home is well decorated, good location for town access. Alley to house has stairs as described in earlier reviews, but if you can't do this, 80% of the town will be off your map too. Issue we had was that it was poorly cleaned (cleaners are paid $15-20/day, so $60 is sufficient to have a well cleaned home(one person all day should make it spotless). I don't think master bath cleaned at all, we had 3 towels for 4 people, no extra water bottles (lug those up the hill!), no hand soaps, shampoo, extra toilet paper, kitchen towels, etc. We stayed one week.
For a vacation rental, all these things I believe should be there (the first of many dozens we have stayed that did not), and a $60 clean fee is sufficient to provide these things and a well cleaned house. This place is delivered more like a long term rental where you bring supplies. I would stress the importance of these if they are important to you.
Again, we've stayed in Guanajuato many times, and the location of this home is good. Easy access by transport (350 MXN by Uber from Leon) with a short walk up alley/stairs, neighborhood pleasant except barking dogs, which is what Mexico is about too. They love their barking dogs. Don't bring a car, but if you do, you can park in the tunnel fairly easy and police now appear to hang out 24 hrs/day there making sure no break-ins. Guanajuato is as safe a town you'll find in Mexico or the US.
Thank you for choosing and staying at Casa Chan. We greatly appreciate your feedback and are disappointed to learn about the issues after your departure other than when you discovered the short-comings as so they could have been immediately resolved. The house not being spotless is 100% unacceptable to us and frankly a bit embarrassing. This is our personal home! Soap, towels and the like should have been available to you. We do provide 1 full unopened 20 liter water bottle and most commonly a partially full one. It appears our management failed to share how you could of had more delivered if you needed it...as lugging those even on flat land a short distance is quite a chore for most of us. Related to pay wages, GTO, like all of Mexico, is rapidly experiencing increasing prices and required compensation...the rate you suggest for cleaning is NOT correct, but is also not your concern, and should NOT of been your issue if it cost us 5 times the amount we charge for cleaning. We love your passion for Mexico and enjoyment of our home and neighbors....we believe they are fantastic. Our sincere apologies for the issues we are now learning about. Because of you, others will not experience the same issues. All the best to you. TnT
Perfect location and comfy quarters for a long stay!
We enjoyed ten weeks of fun and Spanish study in Guanajuato, thanks largely to having a spacious house to come home to. No car needed. Markets and services very close by. Highly recommend it for a special weekend or extended stay.
Thank you for your review. We are very happy you enjoyed your stay at Casa Chan in one of our favorite cities in the world. We hope to host you again soon!
Great last minute stay!
Alejandro went above and beyond to make sure we had everything we needed at the house and in the city. The home was comfortable and has a beautiful view. I would not recommend it for older folks or handicap folks as there are many (75 exactly) steps to get to the home. Otherwise most anyone would enjoy their stay.
Thank you for your 5 Star review. We are appreciative that you chose or home away from home for your Guanajuato visit and are delighted we were able fulfill your last minute reservation to include the use of the studio. We also appreciate your review pointing out that we, and our bi-lingual local property manager, need to do a better job of assuring our guests know of the shortest and, BY FAR, fewest step route to get to our home (2/3 fewer steps). As so much of the town's charm is associated with the winding small pedestrian only streets, we believe the best solution is to include a map showing the numerous routes to our home. We hope to have you as a guest again soon.
Beautiful home in fantastic location!
My husband and I just returned from a 6-week visit to Guanajuato during which we stayed in this lovely home. Let me just start by saying the views of colorful Guanajuato from the patios are incredible! Guanajuato has been called the most beautiful city in Mexico (no disagreement there!) and this home is designed to take full advantage of soaking in the beauty. We enjoyed many sunsets on the roof patio with a bottle of wine. The master bedroom and the patio just outside have equally stunning views of the city. When we weren't savoring the views we were out enjoying the charms of the city. The house is conveniently located just outside the historic center of the city and is in easy walking distance from all the main sites. The owners of this home do not live full-time in Guanajuato, but this is not a problem because the property manager they have hired is outstanding! He was responsive to our requests and questions about the house and the city. He even provided transportation to and from the airport and could be hired to give tours of sites in the area surrounding Guanajuato. In summary, we absolutely loved our time in Guanajuato and this home was no small part of our enjoyment!
My first trip to Guanajuato Mexico. Such a gorgeous place to visit. We can't wait to visit again. My adult daughter and I really enjoyed the house and it's location near the "Centro". The home is very comfortable and is very user friendly and in a safe location. Beds were comfortable, showers had good water pressure and good hot water, kitchen had good assortment of cooking pots and pans, nice dining area. Fresh fruits and vegetables in and around Embajadora Park at street level. Small stores close by for little things with easy access bigger supermarket close to the big Hidalgo Market south of the "centro". Only drawback that is hard to overcome in a mountain city is the stairway up to the house. Lowlanders such as myself and people with lung issues should be aware of the 6500 foot elevation. It took a few days to get acclimated to the elevation and the steepness of the streets and "callejones". There are easier routes up to the house and after discovering them it made the walk to "el Centro" and back at the end of the day somewhat easier. Alejandro the property manager was great in helping us enjoy our time there. He was very responsive in addressing issues,we had very few, and was a wealth of local information and customs and knew first hand about the attractions that are available to see. He also speaks English well. I will for sure tell friends of this home and encourage them to visit the "Italian mountain city in Mexico". Sooo.... beautiful. Hasta la proxima!
D, we are honored that you and your daughter chose our Casa for your stay in beautiful Guanajuato. Thank you for your kind words a feedback. We look forward to hosting you again in the future. Warmest regards, T
