North Shore - 10 day vacation was wonderful
North shore is 44 miles from Waikiki and varied from 55 to 1.8 hours based on county road work and tourist crowds. Condo was good, I fixed a few things, just ‘cause I got bored. Location to beaches was not walking distance - about 8 city blocks. The amenities and beach gear was super helpful. A/C was in exceptional operation. The only thing drawing this VRBO down from 5 stars across the board, was not the owners’ fault. The HOA kept taking the garbage dumpster from the areas. When I asked the Property Managers - they said the pulled them when they got full. And they said they didn't have enough of them to swap them - so people would pile up (lots of) garbage in the parking lot; or (like I did), haul it off site to any open dumpster I could find.
This condo was awesome! We were right in the middle of everything on North Shore. Thank you David for your recommendations. Our first time in Hawaii to celebrate my daughters sweet 16. We did so much and took our last in Waikiki and honestly I wanted to go back to north shore lol but again condo was perfect for our needs. Again Location ❤️ Condo ❤️👌🏼
Perfect size for what we needed. Close to pool. Close to restaurants and shopping.
Nice place on Oahu’s North Shore - on a golf course
Nice condo on Oahu’s North Shore - on a golf course. The condo itself has had some updates in the kitchen and main bathroom, but definitely shows it’s age and use in most areas inside the unit.
When we arrived, we realized a few short comings with the check In process. First, the actual address is/was not provided, which made for a little guess and detective work. The condo is located in the Kuilima Estates at Turtle Bay. The welcome package does mention this on about page 3 of the check in information, which should probably be the first piece of information.
When we arrived, you do in fact turn into the Turtle Bay Resort, which was a little fuzzy in the instructions (no guard or controlled access - ok) and then once you have turned onto the main drive heading toward the resort, the first left available is for the Kuilima Estates, where you are headed. This was the second area for improvement.
The check in instructions detail entering a code for the condo or the main office - neither of which worked for us (union coffee break I suppose - just unlucky for us). We were eventually assisted by someone else attempting to enter the estates immediately behind us, but they had similar difficulty as well, but we made it. The unit is much darker inside that the pictures show. The security door handle catches on the main door handle.
We had a bit of rainy weather - it just seemed the unit lacked considerably natural light inside.
The air conditioning setup is great! We learned this the hard way on our first trip to Oahu - whether you think you need it or not, ensure you stay someplace with good air conditioning.
The condo offers most everything - boogey boards, beach chairs, a couple medium sized coolers, beach towels, and even snorkel gear and pool floaty noodles.
The kitchen affords the necessities, including fridge, stove/range, coffee maker, and toaster oven, as well as cups, glasses, dinner wear and flat wear.
The condo is located fairly close to one of the pools, and a 2-3 minute walk to another pool. The pools were in freshly renovated condition, and the water was great, and the pool areas offered tables and chairs to dine at or hang out, as well as charcoal bbq pits for grilling (you must provide your own charcoal).
The only area for improvement in the pool areas is that there are sparse numbers of lounge chairs for sun bathing - only 2 lounger chairs in either pool area.
So we had a few hiccups, but a nice stay.
The property is very convenient to the North Shore. The golf courses at the resort are very nice! We had 4 adults staying here and it was an OK size for us. More than 4 people would be tight. We were glad to have 2 bathrooms. We didn't have any problems and would definitely recommend this property!
Perfect Kahuku Condo
We had an amazing time in Hawaii, and found this condo an awesome place to stay. Reasonably priced, roomy, with a perfectly outfitted kitchen and near to several markets. But if you want to avoid the same-o groceries that you normally get on the mainland and experience a bit more of Hawaii, then stay away from the further-away big box grocery store and go to the Kahuku Market (on the left on the way to Laie) just down the road - THE best Poke, Spam Musubi and selection of other great local foods, ever! You need no other utensils to cook and serve any kind of meal you'd like at the condo. If not, there are several great restaurants at Turtle Bay within walking distance (Roy's Signature Hawaiian Martini while sitting overlooking the beach is a must). The beach here is barely a 5 minute walk - and beautiful - as well. All the famous North Shore beaches (Waimea, Haleiwa, Shark's Cove, Sunset, etc) are a short drive, but don't miss Malaekahana State Park! IMHO, maybe the prettiest (and one of the least visited) on Oahu - likewise a short drive. If you don't want to spend all of your time in the tourist-crowded environs of Waikiki and Honolulu, this is perfect. And nothing on Oahu is really all that long of a drive from anywhere else anyway. Don't pass this condo up!
