Beautiful home and beach.
Beautiful home and beach in a wonderful community. Unfortunately hurricane micheal decided to show up and we had to cut our vacation short and leave early. Other than that,we love this place.
Very Nice and Relaxing
We enjoyed our stay at SABU. The house was extremely clean and in good repair. There was plenty of space for all our family. The beach is a little bit of a walk from the house but it isn't bad at all. The only thing I didn't enjoy was that locals are allowed to drive on the beach. This can be dangerous if you have a lot of younger children. But that has nothing to do with the owner or this property.
Indian Pass Raw Bar is a must! I hate oysters but the baked ones here are so good! You really don't have to leave though because there is plenty in the kitchen if you want to cook your meals at the house. One addition I would recommend is tools to crack crab legs open. Other than that, it is perfect.
This beach is not crowded and no high rises. It is perfect. Highly recommend this property!
We are so happy you enjoyed your stay! Thank you for reviewing our home. We would love to have you back again. Next time we will have some crab cracking tools! What a great idea.
Really, Really, Really Nice
Sabu is an incredible house! Right on the beach, great location, & stacked with awesomeness. The layout of the house is great for two families (or a large one), as the master suites give parents the space they need, while the kids get full control of the bunk-room. If needed there is always space for more kids in the master sitting rooms, which have incredible views in addition to a couch/bed with a TV. Naptime! Two outside porches complete the views, with a screened in first-floor porch, & a second-floor deck with amazing views - which is perfect for morning coffee.
The main living space is a massive, flowing, open-layout, kitchen/breakfast nook/dining room/living room area, which keeps everyone together. Kitchen has everything you need, dining room is great for eating or games, & the living room has space for flopping and TV-watching. Ice machine. Yep, I said it, a stand-alone ice machine. There are enough forks for a small army, & the DVR kept World Cup viewing from interfering with beach time. Underneath the house is covered parking, beach-stuff storage, & an outdoor shower.
The only drawbacks are minimal. Shoes are needed for walking the deck out to the beach, the outdoor shower is in open view, & the fun toys stowed in teasing view (kayaks) are chained up, & sadly not included in the rental. Really this place is close as anything to a perfect beach house. Any imperfections are from normal use.
Homeowners & local team are great, easy to work with, & communicate well. The area is fantastic. Bar across the street has great sunset views, a food truck, & over a dozen local beers on tap. BBQ place nearby is worth a stop as well. The Cape Trading Post/Donut Shop/Smoothie Stand, is by far the best place on the cape for supplies, & a seafood market is across the street. Donuts are great, but get there at 7:30am or you'll spend 30 min. standing in line, watching people buy all the flavors you want...Worth it.
I cannot end before mentioning St. Joseph Peninsula State Park at the end of the cape. Kayaking, snorkeling, hiking, swimming, you name it. This place is a gem. $6 will get a car of people in, $40-50 for a kayak rental, but make sure you bring a snorkel and mask for bay snorkeling. Also, ask the person at the gate for a "Wilderness Day Pass" if you are at all adventurous. The pass lets you get as far away from people as possible, and a short hike over dunes will end in the most pristine, unpopulated, beautiful beach day ever.
Perfect beach retreat
While our family has stayed at various rental properties in the Cape San Blas area, SABU proved to be one of our favorites. We are in our mid-fifties, and this year no kids wanted to come along for the beach vacation so we brought two other couples. We had a blast! SABU is tastefully decorated - clearly someone with an artistic bent helped with the décor. The main living room/dining room/kitchen/great room area has high ceilings and was ample space for 6 adults to cook, eat meals together and socialize. When not on the beach we spent most of our time on the screened in porch right off this room with gorgeous beachfront views of the beach and ocean. It a little steamy as there is no fan on the porch, but you got to expect that at a Florida beach house in June. It was little price to pay for the gorgeous views. The two main bedrooms with baths and sitting rooms are huge, and even the "kids" room was sufficient for a couple to use. The kitchen comes equipped with virtually all the pots, pans, utensils, dishes, a blender, coffee maker, toaster - anything you'd need. One huge asset to SABU that isn't evident from reading online about the amenities is that there is a bar area with an icemaker - this came in very handy as the typical icemaker in a refrigerator typically cannot keep up with the ice demands for 6 people. We never ran out of ice! There is a gas grill with a full propane tank - although it was a little worse for wear - but it did the trick. The boardwalk from the house to the beach only goes about halfway, and you thus have a short walk thereafter through sand/dunes to get there. By the second day, we didn't care a bit as the walk is very short and doable. It is true that the water isn't quite as clear and blue as on Cape San Blas itself, but the difference is negligible. And by staying this close to Hwy 98 it makes the drive into Port St. Joe, the Indian Pass Raw Bar and/or Apalachicola seem so short. I would stay at SABU again, for sure - maybe even next year!
We are thrilled you enjoyed Sabu! We would love to have you back again!
Lovely home, nicely furnished. Perfect family vacation.
Very well laid out home. Lots of room, two master suites and enough room for our family of nine. Our fourth visit to the area and by far the nicest home we’ve stayed in.
James and I are happy you enjoyed our hime! Come back again!
Great place for older children, teens, and adults.
Sabu is ideally located for all Cape activities and jaunts to St. George and Apalachicola. It is part of the Cape Dunes community. It is set back off the beach a little bit so wear your flip flops on the path to avoid the Cape “pokey things”. It was a relaxing break for our family.
Thank you for the kind review and we are happy you enjoyed our home! Come back anytime!
Port St. Joe is 10 mijl of zo.
