We had a fantastic getaway at Camp Flapjack!
The cabin has all the conveniences of home (washer/dryer/stove/dishwasher etc) and provides everything you'd want on a great vacation (fantastic views/ privacy/ wildlife/ attractions nearby). We enjoyed eating our meals outside on the porch, listening to the waves at night, watching the ships go by, and taking strolls along the "shell beach", and visiting the lighthouse which was close enough to walk to. We planned to do a lot of exploring in the UP on vacation, but couldn't bring ourselves to wander too far from the cabin, we loved it so much. Owners Lynn and Dan were wonderful- answered all of our questions and were very helpful. The cabin has been updated (bathroom is remodeled/ table and chairs are provided on porch/ laundry room/flowers planted/shell walkway to waterfront )which isn't reflected in the posted pictures. We had a wonderful vacation and can't wait to return!
We had a fabulous time at Camp Flapjack! The location was secluded and perfect for watching the ever changing waters of Lake Michigan. Having one of the premier Lighthouses of the Great Lakes only a short walk away was an added bonus. The cabin is located within easy reach of many UP attractions, but we found our favorite activity was sitting on the porch and watching the action of the waves. Drifting off to sleep to the sound of wind and waves was priceless. The cabin has been updated since we first viewed the photos on line and it is the perfect getaway with a very spa like bathroom! The owners were so nice and very gracious. We look forward to returning to Camp Flapjack!
Wow. Camp Flapjack was fantastic. Walking the bedrock in the sun. Wet shoe wading in Lake Michigan in the shallows towards the light house at the edges of the bedrock. The views. Relaxing in the spotless very nice very comfortable gorgeous cabin with everything needed for any situation. Enjoying the ships, night sky, day sky, moon, sun and nature; deer, sand cranes, flowers, fossils, ancient bed rock, fresh air, lake breeze, Lake Michigan and of course the ever present chipmunks. Hiking the local area mindful of private property. Dan was fantastic. We enjoyed our large camp fires immensely. We did not even dent the wood supply and we tried. The house is just really nice and feels like home sweet home with a panoramic view thanks to all the windows. Nice and private. Local light house, museum and nature area is really simple cool and only a short walk away, great for stepping out and doing a little walk daily. The shell piles on the bedrock are awesome. We used Camp Flapjack as base camp for touring the area. But it was so nice we hung out at Camp Flapjack a lot. Made Flapjacks on the awesome deck too!! BBQ'd daily on the deck with cocktails. Oh yes. We would go back. Thanks Dan!
Camp Flapjack was everything we expected and more.
The cabin was wonderful. It's well maintained, both inside and out. We were very comfortable.
The weather was perfect. The fall colors were spectacular. (We were told they were more vibrant this year than they had been in years.)
My husband and I spent many hours walking along the lake searching for fossils, following bird/animal tracks in the sand and marveling over the "shell" dunes. It was marvelous watching the sun come up over the lake, listening to the woods come to life. Although the deer were elusive, we were visited by hawks, Tundra swans, raccoons, chipmunks & a family of 5 bald eagles.
Before we left home, we had made a list of places we wanted to go & things we wanted to see. We ended up only doing a small fraction of what we'd planned, because we didn't want to leave Camp Flapjack. We could have easily used 2 weeks there.........one to go sightseeing and one to just kick back, relax & enjoy the surroundings.
Our recommendations? (Dan & Lynn, none of these are negative comments.)
Buy groceries before you get to the cabin. It's a drive to/from town. The remoteness, tho, is part of the charm.
Take waterproof boots. The area between the yard & the actual edge of the water stays wet, even when the tide is out.
Get up early in the morning to sit on the porch and watch the sun come up. You won't be disappointed.
I would definitely recommend Camp Flapjack to others...and have. We're looking forward to when we can go back.
What a relaxing vacation we had. The spot is super secluded. We really enjoyed wading and looking for fossils. The sunrises were gorgeous. The owners were very pleasant and helpful. It will be hard to find another vacation home that compares.
My husband and I just finished our week at Camp Flapjack. The cabin was a wonderful location to get away from the pressures of the world. It is extremely private with a wonderful view of the lake. The weather was perfect and a great escape from the summer heat of North Carolina. It is very clean and shows exactly like the pictures in this ad. No surprises at all.
Probably the only thing we found to be a challenge is the location of this rental property from the majority of the tourist attractions of the Upper Penisula. We spent a good part of every day riding in our car to get to and from the sites. If you don't mind driving two hours to reach an attraction, then this won't be a problem for you.
We would rent this property again and spend more time at the cabin to relax and less time traveling to the attractions. I would recommend this property to my friends and family.
