Thank you so much! Just what we needed!
Private & Peaceful
There were enough comforts with the lanterns, refrigerator, rain barrels, well kept outhouse and solar shower that we didn't feel pained without electricity or running water. My children enjoyed their stay so much they said they would like to go back even though they didn't have wifi! Really appreciated the supplied basics (TP, dish soap, tinfoil) as well as books, games, camp chairs!
Peace and Tranquility
Unbelievable seclusion and quiet. Like owning your own lake-saw no one , heard no one. Cabin is a classic w/ cold propane frig and gas stove. Really styling outhouse! Not what you may have experienced in the past. (no outhouse odor) Lake is crystal clear. Great launching point for touring Downeast. I missed Campabello so will return in future for that. Can't wait.
The cottage is just as advertised, cozy with all your basic needs met inside. Outside, it rivals any 5 star establishment for views and ambiance. The lake is clean and clear, fun to swim or boat in or just look at from one of several decks on the property or from the dock. We brought kayaks and loved trying to spot the resident loons as we paddled. The town is close enough to make it no big deal if you need to go there for anything, and Helen's Restaurant is a good place for a meal with a view. We did a day trip to Campobello which was fun and informative. Mostly we just loved the solitude and the quiet augmented by abundant birdsong. We will definitely be going back.
Six mile smile on six mile lake!!
This adorable little cabin set on the lake was the perfect place for our family to unwind, slow down and take in all the beauty around us. My hardy native Maine boys fit right in. The late night swimming was so refreshing. The shining star of this rental was the absolute privacy, it can’t be beat. Swimming, boating, fishing, sunsets, day trips to the ocean, what more could you ask for? To top it off, Anne was such a wonderful host with great communication. It was the best vacation we ever had as a family. So painful to leave.
Where the wild men are...
If you have never heard of it, it's a BBC documentary about people living off-grid.
"Adventurer Ben Fogle meets more people who have turned their backs on the trappings of Western society and set up home in some of the most isolated locations on Earth"
This is how I felt staying here for 6 nights at the end of October and into November 2018... and I loved every minute of it.
My job is global and hectic to say the least, but when I can, I come to Maine to slow down and remember that the stress is really not so important in the great scheme of things - This cabin was the ideal place to do that in.
It was also the ideal base for my house-hunting and beach-combing trips to Pembroke, Machiasport and Rogue Bluffs, to name but a few.
Not to forget the fall colours that were still tinging every horizon golden.
Before I arrived, Anne seemed a little concerned that it might be too basic (or cold) at this time of year. One night there was frost on the car and it was a little chilly, but then daytime sunshine and rain helped warm everything up. The wood burner kept the cabin comfortable at night and hot tea was quickly prepared on the stove.
The fridge was so efficient, it froze the milk!!
Unfortunately, the weather was not conducive to swimming or paddling, which was a little disappointing, but this was made up for by the squirrel parade outside the windows, the clean air of the woods, and the breath-taking vistas of fog rolling across the lake in the mornings.
All-told, not the place I could have vacationed with my teen sons, but ideal for what I needed... to switch off and power down!
Thank you for a wonderful week with no emails or phone calls!
