A true French experience!
We were visiting Paris for the third time with our close friends and this was our first time in this lovely apartment in the Latin Quarter. Being on the Contrescarpe plaza was great! Yes, it was loud on the weekend with windows open, but once you closed your windows, it was quiet. If you're a Hemingway fan, his apartment and garret where he lived and wrote in the early 1020's was right around the corner from the apartment on Rue Cardinal Limone! His famous novel A Moveable Feast is a recollection of this very area.
The apartment was everything described online and the photos and description were authentic! Being on the square was a lot of fun, and having the Rue Mouffetard right there was fabulous! The restaurants close by were very good, great shops, and the fresh markets lent to the true Paris experience. We shopped for cheese, roasted chicken, potatoes, fresh vegetables and wine for our in-home dinner, fabulous! Loved it all.....still dreaming about our incredible time in the beautiful apartment in such a great part of Paris!! Hope to come back here on our next trip to the City of Lights! Thank You! Life in Paris
We rented for a month. Our way to visit Paris is to live there, and the apartment was perfect! It met and exceeded all our expectations. The beds are comfortable. The shower is excellent. Air conditioning is available! Washer/Dryer are functional (the dryer is noisy). The kitchen is a bit spartan (my wife is a gourmet cook so LOVES big kitchens) but entirely functional and met all needs but one - we couldn't find an instrument for cracking crab. Oh. Darn. So we settled on cod to go with our champagne. The horror!
The Rue Mouffetard neighborhood is phenomenal! We know the area, and picked the apartment in large part because of that. There are outstanding food sources - take your pick of boulangerie, epicerie, caviste, poissonerie, boucherie, fromagerie, multiple choices for each. In our stay I developed my faves for each. Really.
And then there is the Place Monge market 3 minutes away, 3 days a week. Oh. My. God. The food is amazing. The area is quintessentially Paris. You hear other languages for sure, but this not a tourist area. This is a French neighborhood. Precisely what we wanted.
The location is perfect. Notre Dame is a 15 minute walk. The Pantheon is two. There are two metro stations within about a 5 minute walk, on two different lines, so the options for getting to the rest of the city are excellent.
Being on Place Contrescarpe and near the Sorbonne, there is a lively and wonderful night life. Most afternoons and evenings, quality music from buskers on the square - we had live jazz, French traditional, outstanding guitar. So, rent here and you get free concerts! If you want silence, this is not where you want to be. But the window panes are modern and do a great job of cutting down the neighborhood sounds. Us? Open the windows and enjoy the sound of life and happy people in the cafés! Close them, and the sound is just a soft whisper. Be advised there will be people laughing and living life at 2 AM. Bothers us not at all., you can hardly hear them in the bedroom. For us this is Paris.
We eat in a lot (see above) but the food options in the neighborhood are amazing. I counted. There are 50+ food establishments within a two minute walk, ranging from shawarma and kebab thru crepes up to fancy meals. Seriously.
Your mileage may vary, but for us this is near perfection.
There will be two proper nut crackers in the kitchen for your next visit so you can crack those crabs.
I can’t make the kitchen any larger but I think it is very well supplied with pots, knives, etc. Did your wife find anything lacking? I will be there in November to take delivery of the fabulous new sofa for the study and will add anything she feels the kitchen needs.
Thank you for the great revue. I am sure we will host you again. The apartment is addictive. The neighborhood even more.
Lots of charm
My wife and I rented this unit just off the Place de la
Contrescarpe for six nights in September, in order to attend events at the Sorbonne University Pierre et Marie Curie campus, and to do some sightseeing. The unit is very large and comfortable, with many rooms (two nice bedrooms, two nice baths, and a study, as well as a large living/dining area and small kitchen).
The unit has a lot of charm---antique furniture, interesting music CDs (we enjoyed the old Edith Piaf music). The kitchen is well equipped. The apartment contains many useful things like Paris guidebooks and maps, desk supplies, hardware, etc.
It is a bit quirky, though. All the shelves and many drawers are very full of stuff, including many, many duplicate items, stored in seemingly random locations. But the bedroom closets were empty, and quite roomy, so we did not have much of a problem storing our belongings.
The kitchen is rather tiny, which was a bit difficult for us since we were actually cooking most of our meals. We knew this ahead of time from the ad, though, and we managed OK.
The location is great, very convenient to the Sorbonne and to Rue Mouffetard (good for food shopping). The property manager was available by phone, and was very helpful when we arrived.
Overall, we enjoyed the apartment and would recommend it. The most significant drawback is the noise level. Place de la Contrescarpe is very noisy, till after midnight on most nights and even till 5AM on Friday night. We managed to sleep through it all, but I imagine that the noise could be a problem for some.
Comfortable and roomy apartment
We had a wonderful time in this apartment. It was roomy and nicely decorated. All appliances worked with given instructions. Good orientation by property manager who kept in touch during our stay.
Location was very busy at night but noise level was usually acceptable. It didn’t keep us awake. It was a fun, young area to be in. Walking to the markets made us feel “tres Parisienne”.
We would certainly recommend it to our friends.
Convenient Location in Vibrant Latin Quarters
This is a great location over a small plaza with walking distance to the Pantheon, Norte Dame. Lots of restaurants and local shops around. We enjoyed fresh baguette, deli, fruits, every morning. Rodney was very responsive to our request. We enjoyed our stay very much.
This is the place to stay!
We had such an amazing stay at this awesome apartment. This large 2 bedrooms and two bathrooms apartment was so space and so comfortable for our family of four (two being teenagers). The locations is unbeatable. Great area to relax in the cafes on the charming Place Monge square right outside. Especially after a busy day of sightseeing. I highly recommend this apartment!
We are so happy that you enjoyed your visit . Come visit again.
