Geniet van het leven in Tokyo!
This place is exactly as shown in the pictures. It is well maintained. The location is very convenient. Hisae was very helpful and answered all our queries throughout the whole process that we have about this place. This place was certainly big enough for the 5 of us. It was unfortunate we did not get to meet Hisae on the day we check-in. Hisae's colleague, Yuko, was there to welcome us instead.
- 2 toilets
- need better bath towels (as compared to hotel standard)
In any case, we would certainly come back to this place or try other homes owned or managed by Hisae.
We had already been travelling for 2 weeks and were happy to find that this property was as clean and new looking as the picture shows. My family liked the traditional feel of the place and the amenities were perfect for our 1 week stay. There are 3 beds and a cot upstairs if you don't want to sleep on a futon. Hisae was very helpful with a variety of questions we had and replied quickly. The location was really convenient for us and we loved walking around to all the covered streets with stalls, especially around Sensoji Temple. The location is within easy walking distance to grocery stores and the Asakusa train station. We would definitely stay here again.
The apartment was spacious for Tokyo. It had all the basics, including a really good washer/dryer. I would only recommend that a toaster be included in the kitchen. The neighbourhood had many handy shops including a huge supermarket, and an english speaking bar (has guinness signs out front) with a karoke bar on the second floor in the shopping street around the corner. The Sensoji Temple is easy walking distance away. Note there are steep stairs which are a safety issue for small children. We all enjoyed our stay here, thank you.
There were six of us staying for two weeks, and by the second day, we were all referring to the place as home. After a long day of exploring, this is the place you want to come back to. Clean, private, and comforting and with two toilets, this place had everything to make you feel welcome. Between adventures, my brother and I often found ourselves on the relaxing sheltered roof patio, soaking up the beautiful May weather.
The other reviews did a great job talking about the wonderful neighborhood that's around the house. We happened to be staying here during Sanja Matsuri, so the proximity to Sensō-ji Temple made us feel especially privileged as we enjoyed the festivities. I recommend everyone make the 5 minute walk over to Matoba bakery (just punch it into google maps) to pick up a variety of freshly baked pan for breakfast. We ended up using the Tsukuba express line fairly frequently to pop over to Akihabara for food, shopping, or simply to switch to a Tokyo metro line.
Something that I didn't see in the other reviews was a thumbs up to the hot water! When you have six people showering in a row, hot water becomes rather important. Thankfully, the location had a tankless hot water heater that provided an endless supply of it. When you're bathing, just make sure you are using enough hot water to keep the system heating.
My family stayed here for a week in March, and it was such a great area. The space has a nice separation between tatami room (where two people slept on futon) and the upstairs area where 4 people slept on beds. Take note that this starts on the 2nd floor, so you will be climbing stairs twice a day at least, and you have to figure that for luggage as well :)
The area is really fantastic though! You are right around the corner from a nice shopping street that sells fresh veggies and fruits, plus there is a 100 yen store near there as well. There are plenty of little places to eat on that street as well, plus a Family Mart (where you can get great conbini food!) There is a nice local museum there that is free of charge that my wife enjoyed, and she got some traditional footwear from one of the shops near by.
A short walk away from the location is a fantastic grocery store called Life. This store has an amazing prepared foods section, and they also sell clothing and what not on the top floor. We took no clothing for our children other than what they wore on the plane and a spare set, so we did some shopping there. I would pick up food and store it at the apartment for breakfast. If you want to eat out for breakfast, then its a short walk down to the local Denny's for an amazing breakfast! You have to eat there at least once, its great!
There is also a 7-11 under that Denny's where you can access money at the ATM (its one of the easiest ways to get money if you don't bring cash). After that, you have your choice of easy access to Asakusa subway station or walking back to the apartment to take a bus to Nippori station. If you get tired after a long day out, you can take a cab from Nippori station for about $15, or a cab from Tokyo Station for about $25. When you are ready to go home, you can catch a bus to Asakusa or Nippori and take the Narita Express to the airport!
In the area you will also find a Don Quijote, which is an awesome place to by gifts for people, or any daily things you may need! Try the taiyaki place around the corner from it, next to Yoshinoya, as they make a great strawberry creme taiyaki, and pass out warm mugicha when its chilly while you wait.
Its a great place to stay and a great deal if you are taking a family!
This was a fantastic place to accommodate our family of five. It is exactly as described: clean, functional and with enough Japanese touches to make it feel authentic without compromising on Western conveniences.
The location is highly convenient, vibrant and interesting. We loved staying so close to Sensoji Temple and enjoyed sampling the variety of foods (noodles, rice crackers and mochi) unique to the area.
We would definitely book this place again should we return to Tokyo. It had everything we needed.
I would caution against packing too much. There is not a lot of storage for one's belongings on the main floor (especially if you are a large family). We each travelled with one carry-on suitcase only and took advantage of the nifty washer-dryer combo to clean our clothes daily. Also, while the kitchen is adequate for simple breakfasts and snacks, it is not the kind of facility equipped for full meals. Not that cooking is required in Tokyo. There are thousands of great options literally steps from the home's door.
Special thanks to Hisae-san for always responding so promptly and efficiently to our questions prior to our arrival. We did not require any further assistance once we got settled.
This was a GREAT place and we look forward to another stay!
