Worked out Great
It was a nice location and worked great for our needs!
Quiet peaceful vacation
Very quiet and peaceful location, if you looking for a place to enjoy nature and the outdoors this is it, expect to see daily visits from deer and wild turkeys. The house was very clean and well kept, recently updated inside. A great place to stay .
Beautiful and comfortable
Beautiful and nicely refinished cabin. Well away from neighbors for quiet relaxation and close enough to parks for entertainment.
Nicely remodeled lake home with unique touches.
The 2 bedroom lake house has been recently remodeled with nice touches and all appliances are newer models (including the washer & dryer). Huge 6' x 8' custom wood-topped kitchen island with seating for 6. Matching woodwork touches for the TV stand and kids table. Both queen beds were comfortable and sat on custom bases with headboards. We were here for the month of August and saw a lot of wildlife: deer with fawns (every day), raccoons, turkeys, fox, bald eagles, Great Blue herons, turtles & mink. The waterfront does not work for swimming and is not easy for getting a boat in/out from the dock (tree stumps & weedy) however there is a nice public swim area on this same lake at Osage. The house was well equipped, we wish it would have had a reading lamp in the LR and/or a dimmer switch for the 6 ceiling lights. The water is filtered and tasted fine so we used tap water for coffee, cooking & drinking. Being on acreage & away from town it is VERY dark at night which was appreciated. There is a grocery store & liquor store in Osage as well as a post office and OBT -- Osage Bait & Tackle which doubles as a bar/grill/gas station. It's about 10 miles to Park Rapids and all it has to offer including the Heartland Trail.
The Good, The Bad and the Ugly !
The good : this is an old cabin with an interior remodel. The interior is done well, nice ascetic, great kitchen island, high end appliances, great beds, great bathroom and super shower. There is a nice firepit down by the lake and the woods surround the property on all sides so it is quiet and private. Fantastic wildlife, early mornings were such a treat with ducks, herons, Loons, Bald Eagles, Hummingbirds and even a Mink stopped by!!
The bad: despite looking great and being large the kitchen is tough for more than one person to be working in, the sink, range and dishwasher are all packed into a three foot area without room to move around other people. There are a lack of instructions on how the radiators, thermostats and television work, we were only able to find one channel and had no idea if there were more, ended up using our laptop to check local weather during storms.
The Really Bad: The outside of the cabin is a mess. Yes we all know it's old, but it is also neglected, years of dead leaves packed up against the cabin, overgrown weed beds everywhere, huge cobwebs all over the deck rails and chairs, the cabin itself was just covered in dirt and dead bugs and spider webs. I live in the woods of Wisconsin, you have to wash down the outside and rake out the flower beds, wipe down the patio furniture, hose off the siding and the deck...this place was cute on the inside, neglected on the outside.
The Ugly: that would be the lake !! The cabin is lakeside with a lovely view, but the lakeshore in front of the cabin is horrid. It is not even like lakeshore, I would say it is a Bog, or a Swamp or Slough. There is a dock but it surrounded by slime and fungus, horrible sludge and dead trees. We had planned to float or swim,,,I wouldn't touch a toe into that slimy mess !! We got into our kayaks on shore and slid into the sludge from shore so as not to touch the slime,,,and the dead trees and slime and seaweed go on for 20 yards or more into the lake, the seaweed is so thick and overgrown it was up against the kayaks.....really really awful shoreline!! If your going to rent claiming shoreline it should have some accessibility.
My advice, if you are going to sit indoors at a lake cabin this is great, if your going to be outside and don't mind overgrown neglected property this is okay. But if your going for a "Lake Cabin" vacation, look elsewhere, there are many nice cabins that are well kept with nice lakefront in this area.
Quiet lake setting, very nice. Had all we needed for our short stay. Owners were great when contacted. Saw deer, chipmunks and heard loons. Close drive to fun places.
