On the picturesque ancient 17th century Buiksloterdijk in Amsterdam North is our beautifully located garden studio of 50m2 (860 sq.ft.).
It is an oasis of peace and yet only 10 minutes by bike from Amsterdam centre or 6 minutes by bus, 3 stops to Amsterdam Central Station, the middle of town. In fact you are much closer to the city center than most other places in Amsterdam.
The Buiksloterdijk used to be the place where the Dutch East India Company captains retired. The houses where called 'the captains heaven'. The water of the IJ-river that runs through Amsterdam used to come right to the house. Now it is a polder.
Its like being close to the buzzing scene of Amsterdam and still feel like you're in the countryside. That is why this location is one of the most sought after locations of Amsterdam.
The view is beautiful. Overlooking the North Holland Canal. Known cycling and walking routes through rural North and Waterland go directly past our house.
In front of the house (50m) is the Noorderpark and its brand new (2015) indoor/outdoor swimming pool .
PARKING IS FREE right in front of the house; the bus stop to Amsterdam Central is a few minutes walking away. The bus takes 6 minutes to get to the Central Station (only 3 stops). By car you drive through the IJ tunnel in 5 minutes to reach the center of the town (Waterlooplein) with ample parking garages.
By bike just follow the cycle path in front of our house to the end and you are at the FREE ferry in 7 minutes. The ferry runs every 5/10 minutes day and night. The trip across takes 2 minutes. On the other side you are at the Central Station.
You could also walk to the ferry. It is a beautiful stroll along the NH canal.
Walking distance just 25 minutes.
Amsterdam North is the new buzzing district for art, film and specialty restaurants, such as the IJkantine, Stork or Hotel de Goudfazant. The NDSM area is presently the cultural hotspot of Amsterdam. You could walk there from our house.
Around the corner from our house, at the canal, is a small cafe where cake, muffins, juices and ice cream are available. In the evening you can enjoy a home cooking meal at a very reasonable price.
A small supermarket is at 150m, a Dutch bakery at 300m and a big supermarket Albert Heijn is at 800m.
1km away is the 18-hole golf course Amsterdam-Waterland.
PARKING IS FREE in our street. Very unusual in Amsterdam, where you almost can not find a parking space and the rates are in excess of €5 per hour.
The studio features a living / sleeping area, separate kitchen (with refrigerator, Nespresso coffee machine, electric cooker and microwave), a luxurious bathroom with sauna (supplement of €15 for 2 persons for 3 hrs) and a separate toilet.
The studio has floor heating. Large windows overlook a lush garden, designed by Ellen. There is a king size bed of 2,00 x 1,80m, a spacious seating area and dining table.
Through the gate on the side of the house you have a private entrance. The terrace on ground level is also only for you, as is the lounge area in the garden.
Free wireless fast Internet is included.

Staying in Garden View Apartment is an experience!
René works in the film business, Ellen is a school teacher. We both have travelled the world extensively and know how important good accommodation and feeling at home is.
Ellen has a degree in gardening and is also an interior designer
Het jaar van aankoop is 1991
You are incredibly close to the city center and yet you have a rural feeling and wake up with birds whistling. Parking is FREE which is exceptional in Amsterdam.
The free standing house has stunning views, both in front as well as in the back.
We really enjoyed our stay! The apartment is clean, well equipped, it has a beautiful garden, and a cute little pier by a canal. Loved the sauna. Ellen & René were very helpful and friendly. The apartment is a bit outside the city, but the bus connection from/to the central station is really quick, and we enjoyed the quieter side of Amsterdam, too. We also rented bikes one day, and there is a beautiful route along one of the canals & 5 minute (free) ferry ride to the central station. All in all a really nice stay :)
Helemaal zoals de foto's het voorstellen. Ruim, gezellig, modern appartement. Heel makkelijke locatie ook. Kort bij centrum en toch afgelegen.. ideaal. Gaan we zeker nog eens heen, maar dan wat langer dan een weekend.
We very much enjoyed staying in this apartment. The apartment is very pretty, clean, and comfortable, with a lovely adjoining garden, in a nice house. And we loved the location – quiet and pleasant, and near the center. It is an enjoyable 10-minute bike ride to the ferry, alongside a canal. The ferry runs frequently (for free), so it is just a few more minutes to the center of Amsterdam. Everybody rides a bike in Amsterdam, locals and tourists, young and old, mothers with children… but if you’re not up to it, you can take a bus instead. René and Ellen are really nice and extremely helpful. I have recommended this apartment to my family and friends and we would definitely like to stay there again when in Amsterdam.
We want to express our appreciation for the superior service we have received during our 3 nights stay. Thank you very much for the bottle of wine as a welcome gift. The apartments is exactly as shown in the pictures. The apartment is fully equipped and furnished, Whatever we needed, was there in order. The bathroom is really spacious and with sauna. Unfortunately we did not have time to try the sauna. Also the garden is really great and nice place to have breakfast on a sunny morning.
We really appreciate all your effort in trying to help us to get the left behind bag on time at the airport.
Once again you were very helpful and deserve a great deal of praise for the excellent customer service and we hope to visit the place again..
Wish you all the best
Nishad & Miriam
Highly recommend-bus very convenient to the train station/bus station just a pleasant walk away. It is not in the city center but in a neighborhood, which we love. There was a quirky local place a few doors away that we really enjoyed and a great little Thai restaurant several blocks away that we stopped at twice. A yummy bakery is also in the neighborhood.
There are several coffee makers in the kitchen and he had nice little treats in the fridge for us. The outdoor space is lovely and the bed and linens were fresh and comfortable. There was plenty of hot water for our showers and he offers a laundry service which we utilized right before we left.
René was very helpful, we arrived early and that wasn’t a problem and he helped us get a car for the airport on our departure day, in addition to letting us leave our bags there for the day (evening flight out).
Amsterdam was amazing and we really enjoyed our visit.
