Long week end
Our car bottomed out in the driveway. It would have been nice if someone told us about the large stone. Access to the lake was disappointing. Stated as short walk, but never said you had to climb a large hill to get back to the cottage. The cottage was comfortable and well equipped.
Cabin at the lake
The woods were cool, the lake water was"sweet "(my grandsons words) and everything was great. A perfect family vacation!
Hidden New England Gem
My son was participating in the NLF Lacrosse tournament at UMASS in Amherst. Rather than booking two hotel rooms and shoving my family of 6 into them for 3 days, we opted for more space and a chance to enjoy the Berkshire area. The cottage was a perfect fit! Our commute to UMASS was about 40 min through sleepy New England communities. The kids (teens) had a ball fishing off of the deck and swimming in the crystal clear lake. Our stay was during the worst heat wave this summer with triple digit heat indexes. Even without AC, the house remained cool and comfortable in the evenings thanks to ample fans and beautiful tree cover. The overall impression reminded me of my family's old shore home - felt like we were stepping back into the 1950s! Michelle was an amazing host - very attentive and it is obvious she and her family take great pride in their family cottage.
What a great place with so much to do in every direction!
We had a superb eight days in mid-June (2019) and overall we were very pleased. The cottage is fully equipped for families with board games, videos, an equipment-ready kitchen for cooking meals (although we had most of our meals out). Someone described the cottage as funky. Yeah, that's accurate -- and in a good way. We had planned to take advantage of the lake and the canoes (rowboats?) provided by the homeowner but the weather either did not cooperate or we had other plans. We took full advantage of being near Northampton and its many restaurants, Jacob's Pillow (dance festival), hiking at nearby state forests, the excellent Smith College Museum of Art, the Old Creamery Coop in Cummington (lunch, homemade ice cream, bakery-cafe, organic food), the Huntington Country Store, the Outlook Farm Country Store in nearby Westfield. The place that has a special place in our hearts is the Rapids Bar & Grill in Huntington. We stopped there for a bite after a very long drive from Washington, DC, and sat at the bar with locals. Who knew that we would feel so welcome especially by Tommy, the bartender? A few people at the bar lived around Norwich Lake. We went back to The Rapids late in the week and again felt right at home thanks to Tommy and our waitress (whose name I forgot). Back at the cottage, we always felt so at home and comfortable. The homeowner was highly responsive and helpful. Although we never met, we felt her personal touch made us feel as if we were visiting the country hideaway of an old friend. It doesn't get much better than that.
Excellent beautiful fun stay
The property was great. Our family had a ball. You could just come with your suitcase and some food and enjoy the stay.
There were so many games to play, so many movies to watch, and great WiFi too. We had a small problem, which was taken care of immediately. Michelle the owner could not of been more helpful and kind to us. Her Dad had some great conversations with me too as we went to the same High School. To sum up everything, our family would come again, and recommend this cottage to anyone who wants to have a fun relaxing vacation.. it was very clean too.. well stocked with anything you need.
this little house was cozy and comfortable! four of us stayed here (though it could easily hold more) and loved it! would definitely stay again!
