We had a wonderful time here. The house is spacious and clean and has everything you could need. The owners are really helpful and friendly and make an effort to be sure your stay is comfortable.
The porch is wonderful and on the one rainy afternoon we had, we were able to still enjoy being outside. There are plenty of chairs and tables for reading and activities. A new ping pong table, gorgeous views and a picnic table also make the roomy porch a fun place! There's also a second-floor screened-in porch that offered gorgeous views and breezes. At night, we could see fireflies lighting up the meadows - so pretty!
A short scenic walk through a path in the woods leads to a gorgeous lake with a boat house (kayaks, canoe, etc.) and dock. At the house, there are plenty of outdoor games and activities, with a week we still didn't have time to get to them all. We were never bored!
The house is well-equipped for cooking, grilling and eating. A roomy table in the dining room allowed us time to linger over meals and to enjoy games and conversation in the evenings. We slept wonderfully as it is very quiet and peaceful there.
We all loved the Manse and hope to return next summer!
Big beautiful old house. Perfect for family get together. The minute we got there the kids were running through the house, screen doors slamming and all we could hear were excited voices for the next 2 hours.
If you want a simple vacation playing family games, relaxing by the lake or big front wrap around porch then this is your home. We came in from Charleston, SC and are originally from Boston. I loved having the ability to invite friends and family to come stay a night. You can do that with 8 bedrooms. The lake was s crystal clear you could bathe in it and we did!
Thank you for allowing my family to enjoy. Our Golden Retrievers were in heaven too :-)
The Oliverio Family
The house is a perfect gateway for big groups, excellent for families with the kids too. It is very spacious and has a unique character to it. Everyone in our group enjoyed huge porch, secluded neighborhood, nice views and the lake. The house is very clean and had very clean sheets and towels. The owner of the house is super nice and was very easy to deal with, - thank you!!!! We will definitely come back and would recommend this house as a perfect gateway to our friends and family.
My family, extended kin, and numerous friends had the best imaginable stay here at the Manse. We spent a little over three weeks on a sabbatical leave. The lake shared her dependable sweet serenity and purity with us. The woodsy setting took us all back to natural rhythms and simplicity (thank you, H.D. Thoreau, for the guidebook). The Manse enables a mystical sort of time travel. We could easily imagine that the year was 1895; or 1921; or 1942; or 1969... or with microwave, wifi, cell-phones, computer/tv links, and propane fueled fireplaces, a very comfortable 2014. The access site at the lake's edge allowed us to store all our fishing gear in the convenient shed, and pull our Old Town canoe up under the hemlocks. Every room has its own cozy and quaint decor--very simple, colorful and comfy. The array of bathrooms and showers allowed 12 to 15 of us to all feel at ease. The Hardy family, owners for several generations, couldn't have been more cordial, helpful and kind to us. Although we were warned that black flies could be a problem before Memorial Day, it was not the case while we were there, thank God! Special joys: sharing the enormous wrap-around porch with a nesting mother Phoebe and her newly hatched tweeters; watching a red fox cavort around at the woods' edge; seeing the blueberry blossoms emerge, promising a nice mid-summer harvest; fly fishing on a pristine, clean, clear lake; sipping cold wine at sunset on the second floor screen porch, surveying the southern NH loveliness; banquets for 15 of us in the expansive family dining room with a wood fire adjacent, food just off the grill, and all the room in the world to spread out when folks wanted less company. This place is a unique gem!!
I was part of a group of law school classmates and their significant others that stayed at this property over July 4th weekend in 2014. We had between 15-17 people at the home all weekend and it was great! There are a ton of bedrooms so everyone had a comfy bed, some with great views! There was a massive dining room so that we could all sit together for meals and hang out and playing games in the evening. The lake was gorgeous and we hung out in the sun and swam during the day hours. The home was also equipped with a Roku so that we didn't miss World Cup matches as well as Wi-fi so that we could stay connected with the hustle and bustle of the real world. We can't recommend this place enough and if everyone isn't studying for the Bar exam this July, hopefully we'll be back!
Our group of family and friends had a wonderful time at the Manse. The house has tremendous character and the porch was just great. The views of Mt. Monadnock and Silver Lake from the porch are amazing as this was where most of us spent our time when we weren't at the lake. Even had a family of wild turkeys make their daily rounds of the property. The beds were comfortable and the house clean. Owners were accessible and helpful. The walk down to the lake was easy and the lake was crystal clear. Had a great time swimming, kayaking, tubing, wake-boarding, and fishing. Actually had to compete for the fish with an osprey. (Will not say who won.) Kayaking among the resident loons was an extra treat as they amazed us on how long they could stay underwater. An all around memorable vacation we'll be talking about for a long time. Thank you!
