The Casa de Gondomil fulfilled every one of our expectations. The house is nicely placed, rather isolated without neighbours in an old vineyard. The big terrace overlooks the river Douro and has sun all day long. We especially enjoyed the pool -which we had all for ourselfes - and discovering the river by boat (the house comes with several canoes). After nine day's we left regretting our much too short stay at this wonderful place.

Belle maison dans un endroit très pittoresque. Les propriétaires sont charmants et toujours prêts à donner de l'aide et des renseignements. La piscine est un bon atout, les oranges délicieuses!

Una semana en Vila Cete que ha parecido más corta de los siete días. Se nos han pasado rapidísimo. Maria Eugenia posee esta magnifica casa muy cerca de la Casa de Gondomil. Está dotada de todo tipo de comodidades y, sobre todo de una terraza en la que disfrutar de la vista y del olor de las glicinias y de los naranjos. Es sensacional. El trato de la dueña tambien ha sido estupendo, muy simpatica y cercana. Sin duda es de esas casas a las que apetece volver. Maria Eugenia, creo que algún día volveremos a vernos. Casa recomendable!

When we arrived everything in the house itself was spotless, and the owners had thought of every little thing you might need for your stay, from milk and beers in the fridge, to extra loo rolls and a new scouring pad for washing up. Maria Eugenia was just fantastic - really keen to make our stay as lovely as possible, without being intrusive or over the top. A lovely lady!

Casa de Gondomil is in the most beautiful setting, on a terraced agricultural property overlooking the river. You can walk the terraces and are free to pick oranges, apples, lemons etc, and Maria Eugenia also brought us runner beans and tomatoes from their garden - delicious! The pool is also lovely, and the kids really enjoyed interrupting their swims to jump out of the pool and wave at the boats going past on the river below!

One of the nicest things we felt was the access to the canoes. It was fantastic to know we could just set off on the river at any time without having to book or hire them. Life jackets were left out for us, and when we asked if they had a slightly smaller one for our younger daughter, Maria Eugenia immediately set about trying to get hold of one and it was there soon after. Nothing was too much trouble!

Maria Eugenia's husband Jose also took us out on a boat trip, which was really fascinating, and the kids loved it.

If you like holidays which are active and a bit different then this is for you. The only thing I would say is that you should be prepared for long (but generally very pretty) journeys if you want to explore the area. The roads are quite windy and things took quite a lot longer to get to than we had thought. But to be honest, there's no real need to leave the place, it's so wonderful and the owners are lovely!
