This self-catering cottage provides an excellent base for day trips to explore the Charente coast, Île de Ré, Île d'Aix, the south of Loire Valley, the watery labyrinth of the "Green Venice" Marais Poitevin, the Cognac landscape, the La Saintonge collection of romanesque churches, and the banks of Bordeaux / Gironde-Dordogne estuaries. La Rochelle, Poitier, Cognac, Angouleme, Saintes, Ruffec are all about an hour drive.
A 10-min drive takes guests to the picturesque town, Melle, renown for its coinage history and three unusual Romanesque churches, where guests can find most facilities including boulangeries-patisseries, butchers, restaurants, bistros, and a bustling market every Friday.
Guests enjoy a relaxing and peaceful stay in this cottage, which is situated in a valley with streams, paths for walks all around, unspoiled night sky, and wake up in the morning to bird chirping and rooster crowing in distance. In the surrounding countryside, there are pretty villages and wonderful opportunities for walking or cycling, starting at your doorstep.
The cottage combines French stonehouse characters of exposed stone walls and beams, central heating (winter only), newly refurbished and well looked after on a property of 3700 m2. Sleeping up to 4 people maximum, although recommend for 2-3 people if staying for more than 3 nights. Downstairs, the cottage has tile flooring throughout the spacious 33m2 open plan Kitchenette / Lounge / Diner, fitted with a kitchenette facing a broad view of the rear gardens. There is also a 10m2 shower room with WC. Two bedrooms upstairs with wood flooring throughout. The main bedroom of 40m2 has a vaulted-ceiling with exposed beams and exposed stone walls, facing both front and rear gardens. The second bedroom is almost 20m2, facing the front of the property.
Right at the front of the cottage, there is a sitting area canopied under the climbing roses, a place to take shade from the midday sun and enjoy a tipple of your favorite drink, while enjoying the views over the garden. Seafood, goat cheese, and melon Charentais are the specialties here. There are four big supermarkets about 10-min drive, easy to stock up.
