Cottage in Funchal

We have just returned from a wonderful week is this beautiful cottage. We already had high hopes because of the photos on the website, but it was beyond expectations. The space and the tranquillity are wonderful, and it is all so stylish. The outside seating areas are lovely, beautifully kept with comfortable furniture and great views over the rooftops down to the port and out over the Atlantic. The house was spotlessly clean and a perfect haven. Emily, who looks after the house, could not have been more welcoming and helpful. Information provided by the owner during the booking process and prior to our holiday was also very useful. While there is evidence of the recent floods that hit Madeira, the clean-up operation has been incredible, and we were able to enjoy all that we had hoped to experience on the island. We did some fabulous walking, along the levadas, the coast and up in the mountains (Pico Ruivo) and were impressed by the condition of the paths. The Madeiran people were also very welcoming. Thank you so much to Louise and her husband for sharing their wonderful home; it is a very special place indeed.

We booked this holiday before the dreadful flooding in Madeira and we were a little concerned that we wouldn't be able to do all of the things that we'd planned to. However, we were delighted to find that almost everything was up and running, and we were overwhelmed by how hard the people of Madeira have worked to return the island to its former glory.
The cottage itself is absolutely beautiful and funished to a very high standard. It's the perfect base to explore the area and there are plenty of things to do without the need to hire a car. It is also a wonderful place to relax and enjoy the warm weather.

To anyone comtemplating a visit to Madeira - please don't be put off by the recent floods. The Madeiran people have made, and continue to make, HUGE efforts and things are almost back to normal. Visitors are made to feel especially welcome just now. We enjoyed a lovely week's break in this special little cottage. It's situated in a quiet residential neighbourhood just above the centre of town and away from the main hotel zone, so will appeal to those seeking a taste of "the real Madeira". However, you will be close enough to the old town for a choice of different bars,restaurants and shops (taxis are easy and cheap if you don't fancy the walk back uphill). There are fabulous views from the cosy upstairs terrace down over the rooftops to the harbour where the cruise liners dock. The interior of the cottage is superbly appointed and comfortably stylish, as is the whole property.
